Peyton and Phil are working AGAINST the Haslams on Gruden

From what I was told today Ray Hand/Peyton and Phil to a lesser extent are ALL IN on Gruden, along with most of the tier 2 type boosters. On the other end of the spectrum you have the Haslams and Anderson who want to go against the grain and hire their own guy, as the Haslams feel they will lose control and access if Gruden is hired.
Will be interesting to see where Currie goes with this as imo Haslams are the top of the totem pole in this process with Hand and Manning 2 and 3. It will be interesting to see what happens in this power struggle but there is a lot of movement on this on the booster side.
Have heard zero about Currie, which is to be expected with Butch still being employed.

Haslam was definitely against Gruden last time, but I think Hart, with help from Cheek, is the one who decided to do his own thing.

If Gruden is hired it will be almost all Hand/Peyton. They are ALL IN on this.

The Haslams have to be the shittiest billionaire boosters ever. Who the frick do they want? Mike Bobo?!?
Volfan, if you had to put a % on Gruden happening?

I'm not surprised. I think most people are. I think Anderson was last time as well. I'm a little surprised he has changed.
Ultimately, if this falls short, I think it will be because Gruden just isn't that interested.

It has nothing to do with success. Haslam has this misguided opinion that being good at football ruins Tennessee's reputation as a school.
He'll be dead soon, just ignore him.

I've sat down with Big Jim (Or he's been kind enough to let me sit with him) a few times over the last few months and had the opportunity to talk football and the program with him. I think you're way off with your info here. I mean the guy was on the 1951 National Championship team and won at the highest level here under Neyland. Half the time I see him he's got a Power T pinned on his vest and is talking about UT football. Believe me when I say that the man wants to win and win at a high level. When we spoke he was talking about wanting to watch UT make one more National championship appearance before he passes, but that the chances of that happening at this point were slim to none. He and Jimmy are incredible businessmen, but have obviously struggled with front office and coaching hires on the football side of things. I don't agree with him if he's against Gruden or any true A List hire for obvious reasons, but to say that he believes being a football school ruins Tennessee's reputation as a University is disingenuous.

I'm just gonna withhold comment on this

Big Ole Jim is more concerned with his playing days being considered the glory days.
He hides behind the veil of wanting better academics, but Bama has shown that you can increase that aspect tenfold with a legitimate football program. He's been holding this program back for a long time now.
Jim Haslam, as well as the entire Haslam family, is an egotistical piece of shite that needs to go ahead and move on. Hopefully from life in general.

They're more concerned with keeping their name on buildings than actually making legitimate improvements.

I’ll admit I was definitely unfair with my wording.

Whether Lil Jimmy is responsible for this or not, he could sell the Browns for about $500 Million more than Big Jim paid for them just 4 years ago. I don't think they care about the Browns winning championships, they only wanted to own an NFL franchise so they could sell it for profit.
Say what you will about the Haslams, but they are EXCEPTIONAL wealth builders.
I don't believe the Haslams would intentionally harm the football program, because I think they want to win. I do think that they believe they know what's best for the Vols, right or wrong, and won't convinced otherwise.
Now personally, I think the real enemy is Anderson. He was appointed to the board in 2007, it's not a coincidence that the Athletic department has been a complete shite show ever since.
Also, it's fair to point out that both the Haslams and Anderson trusted Hamilton, and he fricked them, and us, in the arse both financially and on the field.

I think that's pretty fair.
Here's my problem right now though...you've got Peyton Manning pulling in a completely opposite direction to get Gruden. The guy that turns everything he touches into gold, who has forgotten more about football than the entire Haslam clan will ever know...if there's one person that should get them to change their minds, it's PFM.
Unbelievable.
