I'll copy and paste this from VN, I was pissed but then looked into him. Seems like the more qualified version of Blackburn:

"He got his Master’s of Science degree in sports management from the University of Tennessee in 2003.
Was here during the "National Championship Era".
Was the AD of a Power 5 Program.
He got K-State's Athletic department donations in the top 10 in the nation.
He has ties to Tennessee.
He was the 2013 Under Armour Athletic Directors of the Year.
He helped upgrade all the facilities at K-State and put them in an Amazing position facilities wise."

A couple other things I saw:

Rankings in the Directors Cup
K-State: 75th
UTC: 107th
Tennessee: 113th

Also saw where he's gotten KState's Athletic budget up by like $20+ million between '10 and '16 and that they've had a surplus in 6 consecutive years.

We hired a fundraising guru that ran off Frank Martin from Kansas State, and learned all he knows from our worst AD in modern history.

That's it.

It appears to be the worst possible thing they could have done.

I have been a in a funk, 'don’t give a frick' state regarding at least the football program since the Vandy game. This fricking abortion means I will continue to remain in that state indefinitely.

Yes, I know you feel my pain.

The senior administration of the University appears to be throwing sand in all the machinery all the time.

At least they didn't hire Cindy's AD that our SJW chancellor wanted.

Idk I thought we were really going to shite the bed. That said, I was really hopeful for Blackburn and I'm not super stoked about this hire. But I'm also not melting over it. Doesn't seem like a home run or a complete dumpster fire.

No data at this point. But anything that even reminds one of Mike Hamilton has got to generate the appeal of cold spit.

True, but Blackburn was also known to stand up to idiocy. Which is, from many accounts, one of the big reasons he didn't get the job this go round. Boosters don't like being told they're wrong, even if true.

I like the hire.

This was from a gentleman on VQ that has a close friend who is a current coach at K State. Here's what he had to say:

quote:

I am friends with a individual that is a head coach of one of the sports teams at K State. I hold off on saying the sport just to keep them under the radar. Currie hired him in a few years ago to be the head coach over this sport. My friend indicated that Currie was a big reason why he went to K State to coach because he was previously the head coach at another Div. 1 team. He indicated Currie was an incredible AD. He said he hand a unique ability to make everyone in the department feel valued. He said he was very sad to see him go. Said he transformed the facilities and made a huge difference. He indicated he thought UT really got a great AD with the hire.

I have known my friend for about 15 years and this coming from him personally has given me total buy in on Currie. Hope this helps some of you from a personal stand point.

Some of their fans on reddit certainly are although mainly because they dislike Weber and pine after Martin. They've asserted that Currie hired someone clean because he was eyeballing his next job so made a safe hire in Weber to preserve his reputation and that Currie always intended to leave K-State for a bigger job but even they admit he did a good job in a lot of other areas.

That said, it appears they are suffering from extreme revisionist history regarding Martin when they claim Currie ran him off.

Here's an account of what happened from a K-State site that was written when it all happened. The short version is that Martin had treated his players so badly that he was facing a full-scale revolt and mass transfers and that when he finally realized it he decided to bolt at the first opportunity. He'd hoped that Illinois would call but apparently Illinois had zero interest. Having burnt recruiting ties in the Midwest, facing a rough offseason and potentially disastrous next season he "got out while the getting was good." So when USCe called his agent without any real expectation that he'd have any interest, he knocked over every woman, child, disabled and elderly person on his way to the only lifeboat around.

The article is definitely worth a read and completely changed my opinion of Martin. I always knew he was a rough personality but had no idea he was a complete piece of shite as a human being. But don't take my word for it, read it all for yourself:
