A list of questions here for you guys not sure if this is the right place to put it but I'll give it a shot.
From Louisiana and grew up a Tiger fan always have liked Tennessee though. I'm about to pull the trigger on some land about an hour north of Knoxville and am thinking about going to college at Tennessee to be close to the land.
Few quick questions
What are some smaller/community colleges that bridge over to Tennessee
How is Tennessee with the Post 9/11 GI Bill? Any former military in here that can give me some information with that?
What are some of the nicer apartments in the area?
Any information would be great. I still have a year left but am trying to get a jump start on my research.
Thanks

Pellissippi State is the best that's closest to UT. There is a program called Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTP) that allows up to 60 credits guaranteed to transfer to any UT system school. There are a couple of minor exceptions for UTK but your advisor should be aware of those.

Not sure what youre looking for here. It's a federal law that veterans using the GI bill get in-state tuition. I went to school with several out-of-state vets that got in-state rate. BAH was about $1200 for Knox. The VA coordinators at UTK are pretty easy to work with. UT is a veteran friendly school imo.

Cant help you with specific apartments, but there are a ton of them popping up around campus/downtown area...all depends on what you want to spend or if you want a roommate.

Where an hour north are you looking at land?

UT was the first non-military academy to establish a military program to train officers. Our history as a military school goes back to 1844 and UT's Dragoons fought in the Mexican American War. Aggie likes to brag about their military history but UT's Dragoons fought the war that would eventually lead to their existence as a state and university.

1898 Cadets:

IOW, we've had a military program/been military friendly for a longer time than any place outside of West Point and its peers.

As a state, we have per capita produced more soldiers than anyone and there are shite ton of vets here. OP should have no problems finding this a very welcoming place.

All I can tell you about Hawkins is that it's a rural county. It's a fairly poor county but if you're looking for nice land and don't mind living out in the country you'll love it. If you're an outdoorsy type you'll like it even more.

Hawkins County...it is very rural, but once you get to I-81 it is a pretty easy drive to Knoxville. If you wanted to stay on or near your property, you could check out the transfer programs at Walters State, which is located in nearby Morristown.

I would also add that, Hawkins county is relatively close to East Tennessee State University. They don't have the same level of engineering, computer science or business programs that they have at UT...but they do have very good health sciences program (along with a Medical and PT school). It all depends on what you are thinking about majoring in.

We should rebrand the school's nickname to highlight this.

Forgot to mention, you get priority registration at UT as a Veteran. That might not sound like a big deal, but if youre in the business college, it's a fricking lifesaver.

Looks like all your questions have been handled.
I'd just add that the area in general is very friendly towards military and veterans. Theres a lot of us around.
There is a Air National Guard base in the area that has a small exchange with a class 6 (most important).

Welcome

Not just that admissions have gotten tough. Being a vet helps.

I wonder what word we could use...

I know it sounded obvious to some but my point in mentioning it wasn't that we volunteer as a state (everyone know that) but that we have a rich military tradition at the university both in terms of being the oldest public uni to train officers and in the fact that our cadets fought in wars (the ENTIRE company fought in the Mex-American War). We were also organized along military lines for a bit.

We were also a US military garrison for 6 years.
