Looking At Bristol or Some Levity

So the polls trashed us which is not surprising given our performance. The talking heads at ESPN and elsewhere are now picking VT to win and talking about how Bud Foster's defense will own us. One talking head even thinks our DL is weak (I disagree given they adjusted quite well at half time). So how are Virginia Tech fans responding? Well the following was too good to pass up.
From another board (this is a VT fan in response to the AP poll):

I'm really nervous about Saturday but Va Tech has given me no indication that they're world beaters.
Hell, Appy is ranked higher. Hating on TN is easy since our game was on Thurs and everyone watched. No one says shite about TCU barely beating an FCS team.

Or Sparty struggling with FCS Furman for that matter.
I'm not really nervous about Bristol. Either the OL gets fixed or it doesn't. If it does then we'll be ok and if it doesn't then we're screwed. I'm prepared for either outcome but think we'll see the offense come out swinging. The hate and poor performance has given the team more than enough motivation to get things back on track. And the coaches have no choice other than to open the playbook after that mess so I think we go back to doing what works.

Tell me why I should be worried about Bud Foster when his defense gave up 52 to Tulsa last season

Bud foster doesn't have the talent that he's had in the past either... I really think App State is a better team than this Virginia Tech squad.

Auburn dropped from 6 to 16 after struggling with Louisville in the opener and then going to OT vs. Jacksonville State. This seems like a more recent trend and really nothing to worry about yet. Hopefully the team will use it as motivation and take care of business Sat. Get to 2-0 and that's where everyone was expecting them to be after 2 weeks. We aren't as bad as the App State game looked.

That's two games of struggling. Wayyyyy different than just struggling in an opener. Plus the Jax St team they struggled with was a bad FCS team.
I agree that we have to take care of business but they gave Auburn a helluva lot more leeway than they gave us.

Umm no they weren't, Jax state only lost 2 games last year, Auburn and the FCS National championship. They absolutely did not suck.

I agree with you. The fact that Wisconsin jumped to 10th or 11th and MSU and TCU didn't get penalized hardly at all is annoying. I think it's an overreaction on 1 game. What will they do if App state destroys their next opponent and then beats a ranked Miami team (in their eyes now) in week 3? Credit us back that win that they penalized us for in Week 1?

I feel like they did the same thing the last two year with the over corrections.

Still two games versus one. FCS ain't FBS. Those scholarship limitations make a huge difference when they play FBS schools.

It really doesn't matter that much this early in the season. Iowa ranked in the top 10 in one of the polls is laughable. Somehow voters forget year after year that Iowa and the Big 10 West literally play nobody and go 10-2, 11-1 or 12-0 in the regular season. There are years where Iowa doesn't play Michigan, OSU or Penn State.

I'll bet money that Iowa doesn't drop at all if they struggle with NDSU in a few weeks.

I am on board with a Big Orange arse beating. I have convinced myself that VOLS were looking ahead, vanilla, etc. and have decided those excuses will suffice for now. Something to the tune of 28-10 VOLS.
After seeing how terrible this team can be I am ready to switch the narrative to "undefeated in SEC play" if there is a loss. I have also been browsing pr0n gifs if/when the timing feels right.
GBFO.

28-10 would be a great Vols win. People would still be mad about it though.

You right. I don't think I would want it any other way tbh.

I'm not all that nervous and here's why, one of two things will happen:
1. The "We were just playing Vanilla because we didn't want to show our hand before VT/we were looking ahead to BAB/etc..." crowd will be proven correct. We'll come out guns blazing and absolutely blow the doors off them. Everyone will get back on board fans/players/media alike.
2. We come out flat yet again, resulting in either a loss or a close win which at this point is essentially the same. The Offense will sputter and die and the fan base will officially begin to turn.
Either way VT will be the game we can figure out what this team is made of. I personally am of the 1st mindset until proven otherwise.

I think it'll be a combo of 1 & 2. We will have a better game plan because we probably match up against Va Tech better. But, we will still have the same issues we did against App State.
Dobbs will be inaccurate, OL will be crap, defense will be good.
I think we win 27-21 with Va Tech driving late to win, but defense comes through to stop them.

There's a big difference between a win and a loss.
