quote:Check in the pro column for Currie if true.
Snyder also was mad that Currie took over non-conference scheduling, putting Auburn and Stanford on the slate. Snyder preferred playing cupcakes.
quote:Check in the con column. Cover that shite up.
One of Martin’s players had $200 wired to him. Fearing a possible NCAA violation, Currie suspended the player.
quote:Check in the pro column. Fulmer was getting lazy af and needed to go.
Currie was instrumental in having Fulmer fired in 2008
I'm still unsure about this hire. I was initially pretty mad, but the more I read, the more on the fence I get.

I don't like that we fricked over Fulmer to hire the guy that fired him in such a shitty way. John Brice has been very vocal that a lot of people are unhappy with this hire on campus.
Davenport has done herself no favors with how this was handled, and the Haslams are a cancer, IMO.

Haslams are ruining the entire state.

This is where I am. There's some positives and some negatives but my biggest fear has more to do with who did the hiring than anything else. The boosters and their little search committee had far too many personal agendas for me to feel completely comfortable with them.

TBH, I would've blackballed Currie if that part is true. Now that we're stuck with him tho I suppose I'll take a wait and see approach but the committee shouldn't have hired someone whose hiring would open so many old wounds.

Doing that to the Battle Captain just pisses me off.
I know he's divisive and his firing in 2008 was pretty nasty but damn, this guy delivered Tennessee's only national championship in the past 50 years. Phil does not deserve to get jerked around by these cucks in the admin imo.
The Battle Captain has more VFL in his pinky than the entire search committee combined.

Should have been fired at the end of the 2005 season.
One reason he got lazy was the "Eight Is Enough" contract Hamilton gave him.

Big Daddy Jim had very little if anything to do with this hire.
This is Davenport wanting control. She put her man in. To Hell with the boosters.
Currie is now beholding to only one person...Davenport.

How will Currie be received at UT? How will he do at Tennessee? Who knows?
I know. I know all too well.
We won't beat Bammer twice in the next 20 years.
What a clueless fricking disgrace. Whored out by the Haslams.

Jimmy was on the search committee and Bill is the governor (directly controls UT's budget) and controls who is on the BOT and in the admin. You're crazy if you think Davenport or anyone else had a real say in this hire -- even Anderson is little fish as long as the Haslams control the Governor's Mansion and UT's budget. Davenport's been employed for all of a couple of weeks and the committee had a chance to make this hire months ago before a new chancellor was in place. In those months prior as well as in the few working days she's had the search has been a joke with a committee consumed with their own personal agendas. That shite didn't suddenly happen when she was hired -- she simply walked into it. Davenport is simply a convenient fall guy for what the Haslam family wanted.
Who do you think is leaking stuff to the press and putting a target on her back now that it's clear the fanbase is upset and asking questions over how Fulmer and Blackburn were treated?
Guarandamtee you that if Currie succeeds the Haslams will be there to take the credit but you won't see hair nor hide of them until the public fallout is over. This is the way the Haslams operate. It's how they operated their business, how Bill was when he was mayor and how the governor's office has gone. And a guy with a recent scandal like Jimmy's and one also having obvious nepotistic ties to the sitting governor had no business being on that committee in the first place.

So was Peyton.
Davenport completely bypassed the committee.
This was a control move by Davenport. She called Currie and had a phone conversation with Currie. She then flew to Kansas and hired him. (1998...it's on the Internet).

Davenport is a convenient excuse that has had the reds pissing blood and blaming her for shite before she ever had a full day in. Hell the entire chancellor power-play conspiracy theory was circulating before she was in Knoxville by people too dumb to realize she hadn't even started work yet but apparently she was doing shite even then.
She's the only one in the process who didn't know Currie. Of course, she's going to call him and fly out to meet him -- that's her job and when the man who writes your paycheck and determines your budget tells you to do something or his brother tells you to do something, you do it. The idea that she came in here plucked up her guy and that guy just so happened to be a Hamilton/Haslam guy is plain silly. You think she just magically came up with Currie on her own? Puhleeze. And who do you suppose is putting those stories out making sure to imply that it was her idea and turning her job (signing off on hires) into something that kinda, sorta, sounds nefarious to a conspiracy driven pissed off group? Pretty sure it's not her putting those out but rather someone who knows how to play the game well in this state, someone with a proven track record of doing so, someone in power, who is savvy in politics and knows how to work the media, someone like....
The Haslams have used Bill's position as governor to put their name on an inordinate amount of buildings at UT. They've gone beyond the one building play that most rich donors do and stamped it so many building it's gotten to the point of being tacky -- it's like a university tramp stamp. They'd change the name of the university and the words to Rocky Top if they thought they could get away with it. And that's just the most outward expression of how the Haslams feel about UT. Not only do they want you to think they own it by stamping their name everywhere, right now they pretty much do and they haven't been shy at all about it. They haven't even been couth enough to you know not appoint the governor's scandal ridden brother to the search committee but hell when people are willing to buy the whole "zomg1 it has tits it must be out to get us!" theory why bother with appearances, you've got a ready made devil to do as you please with no work needed. If you can't figure out who runs the show after all they've done already to consolidate control in Knoxville, at UT and all over the state of Tennessee AND after making sure Jimmy was on the committee you're either blind or letting your feelings for Big Jim get in the way.

Have to agree with you, all reports out of Knoxville indicate this was strong-armed by Haslams who didn't want Blackburn/Fulmer.

Winning football games is not a priority. What a misfortune it is for the Vol Nation to have befall us.

F**K the haslams and the admin. They realize this is a cash cow and too ingrained in the culture for people to not feed into it, regardless of the product they put out.

How the frick did we get stuck with the worst billionaires in the world?
I am going to email George Soros to see if he wants to support VOLS. Let's get these Haslams (and Anderson) out of UT.

That would be awesome.
In all seriousness, Jimmy needs to stay away from running football teams. He's managing us like he's managing the fricking Browns.
