Put it another way: Fans wanted another known announcer other than Kessling. If it's not Jackson then I've simply forgotten the right name but if it is Jackson and he pulled some shite then that could've cost him the job. Make sense?

To summarize:
Prof thought Keith Jackson was making the move from the ABC #1 TV team to the VOL Network to replace John Ward. He doesn't remember the retirement during the Fiesta Bowl, but when he opted to return to the booth instead of retiring, Prof believes he was forced to return to ABC because the VOL Network execs had black balled him from becoming the Voice of the VOLS.
Is this correct, Prof?

Pretty much but it was really just a supposition rather than a firm belief. If he pulled a stunt like that just for the attention it would make sense that VOL Network wouldn't want anything to do with him.
