Dave Serrano resigns

EDIT: Just saw Serraneaux's thread on the rant. Oh well, any targets you guys have in mind? To be honest I just can't seem to care about college baseball.

"Tennessee coach Dave Serrano resigns, unable to lift traditionally poor baseball program"

LMAO its true but the media never hesitates to take a shot at Tennessee.

I don't know enough about college baseball to even know who our options might be. As long as we keep Todd Helton around. perhaps we can make a solid hire and git gud.

I know he was a West Coast style guy, but I figured Serrano would at worst have Tennessee at an NCAA bubble level within a few years. I never thought he'd be this bad for half a decade.

Just looking around at what the top coaches are making...Jim Schlossnagle is making $1.4 Million per year at TCU. Serrano was making about $450K per year at UT for his base (which was one of the top 10 baseball salaries when he was hired).

We will have to break open the piggy bank if we want to compete for a proven coach. Otherwise, we will have to gamble on an unproven commodity.

LOL, the guy used a Rant thread as his basis for rankings. What a dipshit.

I caught Serrano's segment on Sportstalk this evening on the way home from work and a couple things stood out to me.

He went into detail about how he promised Dave Hart at the end of last season that he would resign as the HC if they weren't significantly more successful in 2017. It sounded like a gentleman's agreement after Hart extended the 1 year extension. Obviously he has hasn't been successful and this is where we part ways, but Serrano is and was straight class through out everything. 100% owned up to this being on him and took full responsibility that he couldn't get it done. He was asked some difficult questions and answered them humbly & honestly. You can tell it broke his heart that he wasn't able to get it done here. If anyone is interested I would recommend trying to pull up that interview from today. I hope that he does well in his future endeavors and wish him well

That's a man right there.

Serrano has been successful in the past. I wonder how much of this failure is Serrano, and how much is lack of administrative support at UT?

He basically chalked it up to a little bit of bad luck with some recruiting misses and just himself not coaching well enough to get the boulder over the mountain top. I believe that our baseball facilities are behind most if not all of the rest of the conference. So that definitely doesn't help us either with attracting talent. I'll be curious to see what Currie does. I'm hoping that we finally start opening up the check book now that we're in a much better position financially.
