Sophomore safety Evan Berry said defensive backs coach Willie Martinezhas indicated that Tennessee will play all of its top four safeties — projected senior starters Brian Randolph and LaDarrell McNeil, along with sophomores Todd Kelly Jr. and Berry — on a regular basis to open the season.

“That’s the plan, because Martinez talks about it all the time. The game is long, as well as the season,” said Berry, who recently has been sidelined by an undisclosed injury. “Anything can happen, so as backups you just have to stay ready.

“He told us it’s a great problem to have — having more depth instead of less depth — so we’d rather have more. He plans on playing us all.”

Martinez. At UGA he practiced seniority over ability.

IMO there is too much talent behind the starting seniors for him not to have a rotation. The seniors are steadfast and have plenty of experience, but they're not the same caliber of athlete that has arrived since Butch took over.

Overall I've been really impressed with Martinez. We went from 13th in the league in pass defense in 2012, to 7th in 2013, to 4th in 2014. 2015 should be the best secondary we've had while Martinez and Butch have been here.

It's encouraging to see after all the years of having slow CB's and Safeties that continously got burned

One would think, but that wasn't his way at UGA. But honestly, I always liked him and I'm happy he's fixing his biggest issue.

Our secondary is going to br outstanding this season.

Brian Randolph is always overlooked for some reason but he is a very solid player

Randolph is legit. I'm not sure why he would get looked over.

You'd be surprised how many people discount his playing ability
