Oh for sure, I'm friends with a guy from Memphis who fishes the Mississippi for them and had caught some pretty big ones. I wanna say he caught one recently that was ~110 lbs. it was big enough that the bass pro in the pyramid has taken it and is putting it on display in their aquarium. He told me it's basically just a big wrestling match to get them in the boat, now he's a big ole boy but that's harder than dead lifting 110 lbs bc of the awkward position and the fish is being anything but cooperative

I guess if they're specifically looking for the behemoths that they'll be prepared to get them in. The article said the state record was 112. Looks like your boy almost had the record.

Offshore tackle. Some of the rods we take out to deep blue water here in the gulf are rated up to 900 lbs.
