I've heard so many different things ranging from concussion to being in the dog house. The "lower extremity" shtick from Butch seems like BS but is there any insight as to what the deal is?

I'd like more info on Mr. Hurd as well.

I'm still of the opinion that he pwned a coach after his touchdown catch, and will be so until he's ruled out

I think VQ just ruled out the lowerbody injury and he hasn't practiced this week. I believe the concussion rumor.

Rest him for 'bama. Piss on the goat wranglers and let's see Hurd smash for 150 against the crimson.

I also believe VQ ruled out the doghouse rumor. Said they were told it was an upperbody injury.

Big time tifwiw. I just graduated from UT recently and a couple younger guys I know who are still there and are close with Jalen are saying he was concussed on that endzone hit and has not been doing well at all this week. Might not even make the trip

Even before reading your post I was betting on concussion

I will be INCREDIBLY difficult for us to win this game without him, this line can't get Kamara those third and shorts

Kamara and Kelly up next. Both are explosive albeit not as physical. Let's see what happens. I still like our options at RB.

It's not ideal, but let's see what Kelly can do in a game this big with the spot light on him.

Yea as much as this sucks, I see a huge oppourtunity here for our RBs. Could this be our 98 UGA moment? Lewis out. Doom, gloom, sadness leading up to Saturday. Then Travis Henry takes over.

To me the line will be the reason Kamara and Kelly can't make up for it, we need a bruiser who can run through tackles to make positive yardage with this line

At the same times it seems Hurd's lack of agaility has allowed more Penatration so who knows I guess. I just keeping thinking of the three plays vs Georgia where we'd have been much better off to have had Hurd when we needed a first down

From what I've noticed this year, if there is any penetration at all in the line, Hurd is ineffective. He goes down very easily if he's hit before he can get any momentum going. Kamara (and Kelly from what I've seen) both hit the hole a lot quicker than he does, and Kamara generally does a good job of falling forward and getting extra yards. While they aren't bruisers, I think they'll both be fine if asked to run between the tackles.

The biggest question for the Vols is what's going on with running back Jalen Hurd.? Sources have indicated to us that he won't play on Saturday against Texas A&M. On Thursday on Nashville radio, Butch Jones called Hurd a game time decision. What we firmly believe is that Hurd has not practiced this week.

There's plenty of speculation as to what's going on with Hurd. First and foremost, it is injury related. A couple of people have indicated that Hurd has been battling a couple of different medical things and it's our belief that some symptoms last Saturday led some to examine Hurd further and it's a protocol that the medical staff implements with such injuries. It's been made clear that Hurd has been dealing with more issues than some ‘lower extremity’ injury as indicated after the win at Georgia. We can say that he has gone through multiple medical evaluations this week.

What we do know is that Hurd is not being punished and hasn't been benched. With Hurd not expected to play, sophomore John Kelly will get his chance and Kelly has gotten a heavy workload the last two weeks on the practice field.

This coaching staff has said they have confidence in Kelly in any situation, although he didn't have any carries in the second half in Athens last week. The challenge for Kelly will be in pass protection. The Aggies love to blitz and Hurd is terrific in pass pro. If Kelly is getting a real work load Saturday then his pass protection work is going to have be good.

Maybe I'm being a homer but I'm thinking Kamara is going to have a huge day tomorrow finally getting the bulk of the carries. I'm interested to see what Kelly will do too

With Kamara getting the start, who do we have returning punts? Abernathy?

That's a good point. I will be livid if Kamara is out there on special teams with Hurd already out. I assume Abernathy would be next up. I don't think trotting Byrd out for his first ever punt return would be wise in that environment

Abernathy is a game time decision at best.
