Under 20 y/o VOLS fans roll me up so hard irl. I have a cousin that's like 18 and we were talking VOLS at a Christmas gathering and this mother fricker WASNT EVEN PISSED about how this annum transpired. He was all like "I mean, we had a good year. We're way better than when Dooley was around."

Then I quickly change the subject because I feel my jimmies intensifying, start talking about the upcoming bowls..we get around to the national title and this stupid bastard proclaims he will be rooting for Alabama because "it's good for the SEC and I don't really hate them that much. They always beat us."

User David Ricky was then internally SEETHING. I could've bludgeoned this kid with the fricking bench we were sitting on.

Moral of the story is I remember when VOLS were elite. Like, nationally elite. Fans of other teams legit dreaded seeing Tennessee pop up on the schedule before the season. We beat the brakes off everyone, Alabama included and god damn it, we will have that day again.

There were days from the early 90s pretty much up until 2005, the mighty VOLS rolled up into stadiums and took care of business. There was only one game that I ever worried about if we could win and it was Florida under Spurrier. Every other team was a W in my mind on Saturday. Even when we played like dog shite on occassional days vs teams like UK, Vandy, and South Carolina, the VOLS found a way to win the vast majority of the time. Suffering an upset loss was a fcking rare occasion (South Carolina in 1993, Memphis in 16, LSU and maybe UGA in 2000).

This is my level of expectation and what we should be striving to get to. Not being content with Music City bowl wins.

Majority of the fanbase has grown accustomed to the past decade, and now treat it as the norm. Probably what holds us back most now

The Vols are on the verge, it just seems like the right hire at HC and they are CFP contenders
