Gents, I am looking to buy a camera system for my home. Too many break-ins in my lovely neighborhood got me and the wifey a little concerned. What does everyone use or what is everyone looking into? I would prefer wireless cameras as I am not liking the whole wire pulling idea since I will be building a new house soon and can hopefully transfer this system with ease.

I think even "wireless" systems still need to be hard wired into an outlet for power. You are going to be looking at running a wire anyway.

PoE. You still need wires. Unexposed wires. Any good security firm can do this for you.

I've tested PoE and Ring Cameras. I like Ring Cameras, but I have a really nice wifi network with great range and high bandwidth fiber that can support them. They really need a strong signal to work well. PoE is the better solution though.

Nope. Rechargeable batteries work as well

Yea, but are security cameras really something you want to trust with batteries?

If you are gonna build a house why not pull wires during construction. Super easy.

I would only recommend wireless as a temporary solution. Who wants to be changing batteries constantly.

I agree with this. I had an existing POE system in place with 8 cameras but just added 2 of the ring floodlight cameras to fill in areas with low coverage. I have gigabit internet with 1 main router and 2 additional wired access points. I thought I would be more than covered, but 1 of my ring cameras STILL has "poor" wifi and barely works.

I'm adding a wireless repeater closer to the floodlight that is poor. Hopefully it fixes the issue.

For a whole home solution, i would definitely recommend POE cameras

Rings are great but they aren't a replacement for a traditional camera system. Great for checking in on the kids or answering your door remotely but they don't offer the same protection as a CCTV system. Wireless systems are mostly junk.

The Ring Chime Pro fixes this problem most of the time.

Nest is pretty boss for an outside cam. Works great.

This. I had a problem with my Ring not working and I emailed their support. They had me run a couple of speed tests and sent me a Ring Chime Pro for free. Haven't had a problem since.

I just bought the nest outdoor cameras a few months ago and really love them. Not cheap, and the NestAware is not cheap either, but very much worth it. HD cameras with great sound and very good user interface for playback.

I have 3 on my home, front, back and garage and love them.
