This week we learned there's no point in trying to find the "best" team

There isn't one. The SEC is a slaughterhouse this year. No one has enough separation from the rest to warrant being a favorite. Every team has strengths and glaring weaknesses. I would stay away from Vegas lines all year with this conference. Games are coming down to whoever just so happens to be feeling their oats that day.

When other conferences beat up on each other, are they strong as well? or does this only count for the SEC?

When other BCS conferences can say they haven't had a repeat champion since 1998. Sure, they can say these type of things.
