You're the first person I've seen say this.

It's Steele's base D, so a lot of people seem to suspect LSU will head in the direction. Personally, I believe if LSU keeps recruiting DBs the way they are they will stay in a base 4-3, but spend most of the time in a Nickel or 4-2-5, just like they have since 2010.

Ah. I see a thread titled "kaboom" on the 247 board with over 100 posts in the last 4 hours. Something big definitely happened. I am guessing that it is related to this thread.

If so, just wow!

More like a combo 4-3/3-4. I don't think we will have a nose tackle, but in different situations we will implement a 3-4 defense. Kind of like the past few years if people have paid attention.

im optimistic about Steele. People look at that 70 pt game and neglect that clemson's offense doesn't control the clock. With LSU he will have the depth, but his defenders will also have time to rest. Even if it's a 3 and out our offense will eat up a few minutes at least.

People obviously don't have a clue. the Aggots over on 247 swear the 3-4 will be the death of LSU D.............ever heard of the Mustang Package? Well it utilizes a 3 man front, which LSU has used for years. When you have elite DBs you want as many as possible on the field. The Mustange is a 3-2-6, so I fail to see why everyone thinks it's weird LSU is recruiting for a 3-4, Their not though, their recruiting for multiple fronts, like always, only thing is now their recruiting BIGGER bodies for those front 3 OR 4 guys

Me too. I think our D will be on par with past years, maybe slightly improved if anything thanks to personnel upgrades.

Not quite. Alabama relies on a true nose tackle. LSU's staff just want bigger DT's DE's, and LB's than years past. Chavis loved undersized guys. We essentially had SS playing Lb For us most years.

Very similar yes. I think we want to be able to be flexible up front and be able to show 3-4 as well as 4-3 looks...which of course still be able to put 5 defensive backs on the field to take advantage of our biggest strength at DB.

Coach O wants bigger DEs than Chavis used so it all works out on the recruiting front between Steele and Coach O.

This is why you're seeing us take a boatload of DL and LB this class. Ideally I think they want to sign 5 LB and 6 DL. We are only taking Franks at QB and likely sticking with the 2 WR commits we have...as well as just recruiting Devin White as the lone RB this class. Have just 1 TE and might take 1 more OL which leaves a lot of scholarships to give out on defense. I think we end up with only 8 offensive guys in this class.

Never have and never will understand the obsession with big de's, especially those one's that run 4.8's 4.9's, the only one that succeeded last year was Mario Edwards

Some teams like a DE that can actually defend the running game.

If you run a 3-4 they are necessary to hold the line. If you had a pass rushing DE in a 3-4 you would never be able to stop the run.

I see what you are saying but we only rely on nose tackles when we play teams like yours. They rarely play if we are playing the spread teams and run 4 down lineman.
