Uh, we've already had one commitment state that he committed to our staff 6 days before it became public. So, uh, yeah. The old silent commit.

I know he is about to be a five star on 247.
Nah.

He's only a 4* now and a top 200 player. Jumped 500+ spots in just 2 weeks.

And the Bama Bump obviously doesn't exist.

He is considered one of the best, if not the best, DTs in the state of Georgia.

You'd think the best DT in the state would have an offer from UGA….

I'm sorry you disagree, but this is from high school coaches in Georgia.

Funny watching people get up in arms about 247's rankings not being static, even after they dick rode them for months calling them by far the best site. So you agreed with them so much initially, yet when they make what would be minor changes in relation to the size of the database, they are complete shite now.

Even with such a vast database, they can't keep track of every high school athlete. So when a major school offers, shouldn't that be a sign they overlooked a prospect? If their affiliate sites report that did well at camps, doesn't it warrant a re-evaluation?

And why should they only gradually move them up? If he's better than whatever amount they believe, why shouldn't they do it then? They've ranked these players personally, so they would know who is better than who right?

With all due respect.

Good question and one of the reasons that 247 is the best. The other sites tend to be very reluctant to move a previously unranked or low ranked prospect into the upper echelon. I think they're afraid it'll make them look bad to admit they missed on a guy. In the end, it's better to get the rankings correct than save face.

People get mad because they continue to bump recruits Bama scouts and pursues.

It's like they think Nick Saban is a better talent evaluator than everyone else. If that were really true, then we would have seen results on the field by now. This is all ESPN's fault for overhyping Bama.

Anybody who knows anything about recruiting understands the difference between being ranked in the top 200 and being ranked in the top 300/400/500 is all about exposure. There's probably a good amount of prospects in the top 600 high school recruits in the nation that could easily make it into the top 200 or even the top 100 with more exposure and a good summer camp. When a kid commits to a high profile program, obviously their amount of exposure is going to increase. Does him committing to Bama mean that his skills are suddenly 300 spots greater in less than a week? No. It means more high school scouts and beat writers have viewed his film and recognize that he has skill and potential.

Basically, does a Bama bump exist? Yes. But it's not some false bump the recruits don't deserve. It means people recognize that if Saban takes a interest in the kid maybe he's worth paying attention to.

By 247. Which is exactly the point we are making. If by "one of the best" you mean a top 10-15 DT, then yes. The best? No, not even close.

No, they aren't the best. The 247 composite is the best, 247 is pretty good, with a few fatal flaws. They do put too much into Saban evaluations. This Dwight bump is a good example. If he performs in his Sr year like this ranking suggests he will, then by all means move him up, but he hasn't done that yet.

Maybe others didn't jump him up like that because the only thing they've seen new is him at a camp? His film is solid but not top 15 player in the state good. I don't blame them for not jumping him another 15-25 spots just because he was a couple of inches taller than they thought. His film justifies a good ranking, but not this.

Bessent is another fantastic example. Very good cover corner. #3 overall player in the state? You have got to be fricking kidding me. More like the #3 CB in the state. These rankings are not very good. It is still early though and there is plenty of time to iron out errors like that...or show evidence bias.

All that said, the "Bama bump" isn't as bad as some make it out, there are just a handful of glaring examples rather than a uniform blind bump of all things Bama.
