has he signed paperwork? He should at least take a few days to let the emotions pass and consider all of his options. Any parent or coach should be advising him this way.

Or maybe even a Runner-up.

It is not even that. It seems as if he is making an emotional decision that may well not be in his best interests.

He has lots of offers, I would think someone close to him and level headed would try to emphasize that this is probably not the best choice he could make. And I say that no matter which other school he would pick.

He has a pretty emotionally bruising moment earlier in the day, then agrees to this? Maybe it works out for him, but would anyone be surprised if he changed his mind about this in a week?

From a financial standpoint and getting the next level (if that's his goal) standpoint it doesn't make sense either way unless his parents have money and he wants to maximize his years in college

This is true, but you are always pretty level headed.

It is just a strange route to choose.

He can still enroll in August, right? Just not on athletic scholarship.

Is this where the Bear Bryant scholarship comes in? Shoot. He can probably stack scholarships and get paid in the fall quarter since he isn't on the team.

Just to reinforce how incredible this decision, here are some notables schools on his offer list:

Alabama
Florida State
Auburn
Clemson
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Miami
Michigan
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma
USCw

I know everybody's has their reasons, but with these types of offers, damn I wouldn't have looked back at Bama if they told me to grayshirt

Four-star defensive end and Jack linebacker target Jarez Parks has committed to Alabama as a grayshirt candidate, BamaOnLine has confirmed. Parks announced his commitment via a Bleacher Report video and TCPalm.com's Facebook page.

The Sebastian (Fla.) River product opted for the Crimson Tide over additional offers from Auburn, Florida and Florida State, among others. But not without some Signing Day drama. Parks was set to announce his decision earlier Wednesday, but that was halted as Alabama’s class was filling up. Ultimately, however, the Sunshine State product pledged his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

Even though he was asked to grayshirt, the four-star had his heart set on Alabama, per BamaOnLine’s Tim Watts. At the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Parks said the Tide had the “edge” in his recruitment heading into the final month before Signing Day.

“It’s straight, they’re very welcoming when it comes to the recruits and who they are recruiting and everything like that,” Parks told BamaOnLine of the Tide. “They try to get to know the player and what they’re all about versus what they can offer to the school. It’s nice they try to get to know the kids and show it’s genuine what they’re actually looking for versus just something to help out the school. They want to help you out.”

After taking an official visit to Alabama and Florida State in November, the 6-foot- 3, 253-pound U.S. Army All-American didn’t take another visit in the month of January despite having tentative plans to see Auburn and Florida.

Tide offensive line coach Brent Key headed up Parks’ recruitment. Earlier this month head coach Nick Saban visited the four-star defensive end at his high school.

Parks is rated the No. 7 weak-side defensive end and the No. 93 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

At the time of his commitment, Parks was trending to Alabama at 67 percent on the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Parks, a 4.0 GPA student, plans to pursue pre-med in college.

Delaying playing for a year
Delaying development for a year
And paying his way for a semester

Terrible thing Bama did to that poor kid.

no it is not.

bummer does this all the time.

He knew it was possible and his coach knew it was possible.

He deserves to end up wherever he ends up.

Maybe its bammer maybe its somewhere else.

But it is a business in tuscaloosa and he knew it.

He may as well be crying because Taylor Swift broke up with him and wrote a song about it. He knew what she was when he went out with her.

Not on the field (weight room, yes).

But now he can get paid 3 scholarships for 1 tuition. He's like any other student at this point and not on the NCAA radar for the Fall.

He had the ability to lock in a spot in the week leading up to signing day.

He was informed that there were other players above him and that if he waited there might not be room.

He decided to wait and we have landed everyone we expected to so far today.

Awkward situation, hate that it played out this way for him, but he decided to wait and things filled up.

Excited to have him headed to Tuscaloosa, he has a ton of potential but would've needed a redshirt anyways due to his frame.

He doesn't have to sign anything today. He'll have time to reconsider, which I imagine he will

I hope it works out for him, but it just seems like some adults in his life would be discussing this with him right now.

Since he's not on the football team, I bet that 4.0 GPA will fetch him a nice academic scholarship for the time being :)
