Below are the current classes for the SEC East in order

UGA:
20 total commits
5*: 2
4*: 15
3*: 3

Tennesse:
5*: 1
4*: 4
3*: 20

Florida
5*: 0
4*: 6
3*: 8

South Carolina
5*: 0
4*: 5
3*: 17

Kentucky
5*: 0
4*: 3
3*: 17

Mizzou
5*: 0
4*: 0
3*: 19

Vandy
5*: 0
4*: 0
3*: 13

I think the biggest shocker here is Florida. They're currently 9th in the conference and 3rd in the east by a large margin.

Unless we get a couple of surprises, Tennessee is gonna drop pretty far.

fricking Lyle

I think we get 2 more 4*/5*s, though.

What's the deal with Tennessee's class? Usually you wouldn't see them accepting the commitments of that many 3* guys.

Actually, this is S.O.P. for Lyle, filled the class with 3*s early, tell them to look elsewhere in December and January, sign 4-5*s on NSD. Although this year, he's been trading in 3*s for more 3*s.

We should have had a historic class this year with all of the instate talent, but Clemson has flat out PIIOB this year.

UGA better keep it up because Florida and UT both will make splash hires (maybe) in the next 2-3 years.

Kirby is definitely doing work this year but let's not act like UGA has not been recruiting on a high level in recent years. They rank #6 on 247 team talent composite this season. The bigger story is Tennessee and Florida not keeping pace in this class. If that continues it will definitely give UGA an edge.

I am very interested in seeing what kind of recruiting success Muschamp has at South Carolina. He's always recruited well (even if not necessarily balanced) but the Gamecocks have not really been a program that pumps out top 10 classes. Interested in seeing if Muschamp can change that

This class is already rated higher on the 247 team rankings than any class Richt ever recruited with about 6 spots left.

High, on a national scale. Top 10 in the country, typically hovering between 8-10 or so. That's solid, but only good for 5th or 6th in the conference most years. That's the difference.

Not arguing it's not one of the best just that recruiting has not seemed to be that big of an issue at UGA in recent seasons. I will say his ability to keep kids instate is the real story. Could hurt Auburn moving forward if he keeps that up

UT will. I am glad that Willie Taggart went to Oregon. I was worried he would take the UT job. He would be scary there.

Let's not act like you know what's going on here. Under Richt we would finish in the top ten but we averaged 4th place in the SEC. Now we're killing the rest of the East and we're second in the SEC as of right now. This is a whole new level.

Richt's main problem in recruiting was not addressing team needs, he was frankly horrible when it came to roster management especially on the O-line. Outside of Bama of course, UGA is probably bringing in the top O-line class in the land which we desperately need.

You have finished 3rd in recruiting in the SEC 2 out of the last 4 seasons Richt was there. You are ranked #6 in team talent based off recruiting rankings. UGA has always recruited well and Kirby has continued that with the added bonus of landing in state talent. Not sure why that upsets you so much. I am not knocking what Smart has done just saying that UGA has never been a program without talent

The bigger thing that was pointed out in the OP is how it ranks compared to UF & Tennessee. If that keeps up then there will be a very clear talent differential in the East. Also what Smart is doing instate could end up being the bigger game changer. Keeping top talent instate is huge for UGA

That doesn't take into account all the attrition we've had, does it? We basically played without the 2013 class this year.

Absolutely. That Wilson pull was huge. If yall close on Solomon, Bryant, McBride & Bishop that would be an insane haul this cycle

No it doesn't but that's moving the goalposts. Recruiting rankings have never been the problem was my point. It's obvious Kirby has upped the game and the East has some work to do to keep up. But since Urban has left UF I would argue UGA has been the most talented team in the East. That's all I am saying

Not that it really changes much but SC has:

5*: 0
4*: 5
3*: 17

Attrition problems do not = recruiting problems. You signed the guys, what happens to them afterwards is dependent on the individual, the coaching staff, and the university administration.
