Since ESPN began keeping track of recruiting class rankings in 2006 and up until signing day in 2014, a span of nine years, the Gators average recruiting class rank was fourth. Over the last two years under Jim McElwain, the Gators finished with the 20th and 12th-ranked classes and currently have the 19th-ranked class behind schools such as Maryland and South Carolina.
Lack of on-field success of the previous coaching staff, below average facilities, a floundering offense since Urban Meyer left, and a current coaching staff that doesn’t have many elite recruiters among it are some reasons for the decline.
While the lack of recruiting success cannot be fully blamed on the current staff, there are certainly some areas where the Gators need improvement.

“From what I can see, they have to do a better job of identifying the younger studs and kind of lovin’ on those guys really early the way the other big dogs do like Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State,” Ross said. “They identify those young kids pretty early on and do a good job making sure that ‘hey man, we love you, we want you to come here.’ From my experience and how [Florida has] been around us, they tend to wait until that kid has those big-time, Power 5 offers and then they try to sneak in.
Shaun Wade’s father, Randy, further explained how the late attention cost the Gators.
"My family really liked Florida,” Randy Wade said. “The only reason Florida missed out on Shaun is because they recruited him late. Trust me, my family would have loved for Shaun to go to Florida but Ohio State's Tim Hinton was on him in the 10th grade ...

well the joke is on the writer of that article, because Florida is going to close with like 10 four stars.
At least that's what I read on the recruiting board here.

McElwain, meanwhile, has yet to hire any new assistants, despite Collins leaving for Temple on Dec. 13. Florida attempted to lure ace recruiter Mike Locksley away from Alabama, but Nick Saban promoted Locksley from an off-field staff member to a full-time assistant coach and Florida was left without one of their top assistant coaching candidates.
As the calendar inches closer to signing, it’s imperative for McElwain hire coaches who are elite recruiters, no matter how long it takes.
“I think if you are head football coach, you have got to be able to hire a coach that is capable of coaching at a high level and recruiting at a high level,” said Armwood (Seffner, Florida) coach Sean Callahan, who has coached in Florida for over 25 years and produced 2015’s No. 1 player Byron Cowart. “If you get a good coach that can’t recruit, or a good recruiter that can’t coach, then you are putting yourself in a bad bind. At the University of Florida, you should be able to get anybody you want, or pretty close to that. That has to be done and right now it’s kind of hit or miss. There are some coaches that are not pulling guys in, it’s very obvious who they are, and there some that are.”

Florida is going to finish with
Tedarrell Slaton 4*
James Robinson 4*
Christopher Henderson 4*
Brad Stewart 4*
Maybe Tony Gray 3*
Tyrone Truesdell 3*
Nick Smith 3*
They'll snag 3 or 4 more guys no one else wants and finish between 15-20 ranked class. I remember when Florida was the recruiting power and taking guys like Ronald Powell and Dominque Easley. How the mighty have fallen.

All of these plus
Devonte Wyatt 4 star
Kai-Leon Herbert 4 star
Breyon Gaddy 4 star
Brandon Gaddy 3 star
And one of 4 star Oliver Martin/4 star Elijah Conliffe/5 star Labryan Ray/4 star Jarez Parks/5 star Devon Hunter (probably VT bound though)/3 star Tony Gray
They'll close with 7-9 4 stars and they'll finish between 10-12th.

Where is this confidence coming from?
USCe has a better shot.

quote:One of these things is not like the others.... Maybe you get Jarez if Bama doesn't have room. Slight possibility y'all could get Conliffe but zero chance in hell yall land Ray, Martin or Hunter. No way your taking a 5* from Bama. Hunter is Va Tech bound and Martin is down to Michigan or Notre Dame.

Floridas not flipping Wyatt from Georgia.
I could see y'all flipping Herbert from Michigan.
Maybe y'all flip the Gaddy twins from Maryland but those would fall under the category of "no one wants" that I was talking about.
Florida will finish 15-20th. Your literally not even going to sign one of the top 10 players in your state.

Wishful thinking. 80% of Florida fans are in deep denial about the state of their program. The LSU win kept a lot of them there.

UF's 247 reporters are pretty confident in Wyatt flipping to UF. They said SC is Florida's biggest competition, and he's more than likely flipping to one or the other.
We'll revisit this after signing day

Can I get a link? I legitimately haven't seen anything about Florida being a major player from UGA's end.
I know he said it was 50/50 between UGA and USCe a couple days ago.

Florida defensive line coach Chris Rumph visited Georgia defensive tackle commit Devonte Wyatt during the December contact period. The Gators were putting out feelers to gauge the interest of the Decatur (Ga.) Towers standout. Whatever the 6-foot-2, 285-pound prospect was telling Rumph, it was enough for UF to continue its pursuit of the Peach State product.
Florida was angling to get Wyatt on campus the final weekend before National Signing Day. The Bulldogs pledge recently confirmed that he would in fact visit UF on January 27, a week after he plans to visit UGA. As time goes on, Florida continues to feel better about their position to pull off the possible flip.
On Friday, Director of Player Personnel Drew Hughes visited with Wyatt in hopes of continuing the positive momentum. The meeting was also just prior to Wyatt heading to South Carolina for his official visit in Columbia.
247Sports is significantly higher on Wyatt than the rest of the industry by ranking him as the nation's No. 164 overall prospect in the 2017 class.

Isn't Stampini the guy reported that UF was going to flip Eason? Sounds like a biased homer.

That doesn't say what you said

How are these two things the same?
It just says Florida feels better than they had before. If Stampini was actually confident in a flip, he would crystal ball him somewhere I would think.

If Florida's confidence went from 0% to 1% that statement would still hold true.

I wouldn't blame the kid for flipping. Georgia has some studs at DT, meanwhile Florida is trying to flip a 3* Maryland commit.

You're correct, our recruiting prowess has taken a hit. Imagine how bad we would beat LSU with good recruits. Man that would be just a beat down wouldn't guys. Sheesh...
