We need it. Hopefully he'll be good enough to be a starter right out of the gate.

Lol "hope he's ready" and "willing to do the work". He was first team all big 10, two years ago. He's either got the juice for the SEC or he doesn't, he knows what he's doing by now.

Well. Yeah. but your defense should be greatly improved. Muschamp. Lawson coming back. There are several reason for Auburn to be optimistic.

If he can start for us and let us move Holsey to nickel that'd be huge. We'll have a fantastic starting 5 secondary in that case.

CB- Jonathan Jones
CB- Countess
Nickel- Joshua Holsey
FS- Rudy Ford
SS- Tray Matthews.

Depth however,

Idk about "fantastic". Serviceable, yeah. Capable of not getting torched every week, yeah. But "fantastic"... Nah. Not quite ready to say that yet

That's a problem with everybody, though. Muschamp is a great coach, so there's that. He'll elevate the talent he has to work with, and getting lawson back will improve your secondary as well. The opposing QB's won't have as long to sit back and pick your secondary apart. I think you guys will see a marked improvement in your defense this year.

It could be very special, though. A major key is going to be keeping Countess haelthy. from what I understand, that has been his problem. If he gets hurt, then that depth problem rears it's ugly head.

A couple Michigan fans told me he's a much better zone corner than man corner and he's leaving because they're playing much more man now with Durkin. But I don't get how he's a better scheme fit here with Muschamp than with Durkin.

Oh well.

I don't see why an elite type player would leave where he's at if Harbaugh is gonna be his coach for his senior year

Ford is a stud, Trigga Tray is a playmaker, Jones was second in the SEC in INTs and had 12 pass break ups..he is really good. Countess is a playmaker and Holsey is serviceable.

Our secondary is fantastic on paper. Whether it translates on Saturdays is another matter.

I watch auburn every week. The only one that could be considered a stud is Jones. And even he has his issues because of his height. I'm just being realistic here

Matthews is a stud. He'll show it this year

Yup. He was a stud. Between the times he was hurt, giving attitude, being selfish, and missing interceptions. Limit those other things and he might play like he did for that 1 year in high school.

Say what you will, but he hasn't shown anything stud-like in college play.

But congrats on Countess. He should help seal up the coverage on the outside. He's gonna be scary to throw at this year with that pass rush and some coaching up by Muschamp.
