Bama fans... DJ Pettway(Posted by Whereisomaha on 10/4/13 at 9:17 am)
What do yall remember about him? He was kicked off the team for 2nd degree robbery after playing in all 12 games in his RS freshman year. He is now at EMCC and is expected to commit to OM soon. Do yall remember his skill set, attitude, etc?

I felt like he was one of our most promising 2nd year players and really hated seeing him get into trouble and get booted. He played situationally in '12 mainly as a pass rusher but was effective when he played.
Right toward the end of the season he was moved from OLB to DE which seemed odd at the time because he seemed to be doing well at OLB. Later it was rumored that the move was basically the result of his position coach deciding that he couldn't deal with him anymore so there were possible attitude issues prior to his arrest.
It might be considered just mere hindsight by some, but Coach Saban said at one of the Crimson Caravan events in the spring that they identified five players with major attitude issues that needed to be fixed. Well four of them fixed it alright. They were the four arrested.
I know it sounds pretty unrealistic, but Freeze has looked at several kids recently that have been booted off a team for whatever reasons, liked their game enough to put out an offer and go to games but after meeting with them and talking to their coaches, we moved on. I'm not saying this kid is a saint but if there were still character issues I can't imagine us taking his. It's not like we are desperate for DE's, especially Jucos.
I always felt Pettway was the most likely to get a second chance. Calloway never seemed committed enough, and is off pursuing an acting career. I'm not sure about Hayes, but Eddie Williams was again in the news after admitting to sleeping with a teacher in high school.
I thought Calloway was closest Cap but I could also see Pettway and I know he tore up the scout team he just didn't have the size yet when he was at Bama but likely would've been a major contributor this season
