Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne told Smith he still had a scholarship offer after 2017 guard Jamarl Baker (Los Angeles) committed to Kentucky earlier this week.

"They said they were still going to recruit," Smith said. "It really doesn't change my decision or my interest in Kentucky."

The Wildcats began recruiting Smith, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound class of 2017 four-star guard from Edwardsville, Illinois, last month and John Calipari visited his home and offered him last week.

"Speechless," Smith said of meeting Calipari. "... When you have a legend in your house, it's kind of crazy.

"Coach Calipari, just his history, you know, developing great basketball players who go to the NBA. That's my dream, go to the NBA, but also just to win, go to the NCAA Tournament, go to the Elite Eight, the Sweet 16, that's always a dream of mine, to play on a big stage."

Smith recently visited Michigan State and plans to visit Kentucky and Ohio State next week. He'll make his decision shortly after that, he said.

"It's kind of surreal," Smith said. "You always dreamed of these schools that are coming after me to recruit you and, you know, it's kind of like a dream come true to see all my hard work pay off that I put in in the fall and the summer. Now all the schools that I like are showing up."
