When the elite out of state players are better then the instate players, you go with the better players. Bama only signs like 5-7 in state players a year anymore. That is what happens when you recruit on a national scale. Bama has been signing players from 10-13 states the last few years.
I'm not going to argue where he was on y'all's board because frankly I don't care.
But if you have a 96 rated Instate OT and he wants to come, you let him come. Even if you're recruiting like Alabama is with Saban

Well, when said 96 rated OT is coming off an ACL injury and you lead for a 98 rated OT AND a 99 rated OT, the 96 in-state guy gets pushed to the back burner.
The state of Alabama puts out great talent. Some of the best. All things being equal I'd prefer our staff take the in-state guy. That's not the case in this situation.
Troxell is injured. Right now. There's no debate on that. No one knows how he'll come back. Alabama has pushed for other prospects and currently feels good about them. They also happen to rank higher than Troxell.

To the Auburn fans: Who cares what anyone thinks? We got a solid player in Troxell and we should appreciate that. We now have our 2 bookend OTs of the future to build around.
To the Bama fans: At the same time, don't act like if he would've chose Bama, you wouldn't have accepted. Of course, there are others on the board but you wouldn't have turned down Troxell if he had chosen to play for you guys instead of AU.. Let's be real..

You don't understand how gump fans work. They have a go to excuse on why they lose players. Watch when they get on one of these guy late; they suddenly forget why he sucked. This happen every year.

Yea because a 2 point rating differential on a subjective scale is definitive proof. We aren't talking about a 2 star vs a 5 star here, I'd say that things are actually pretty close to being equal. Funny how I've heard nothing of Troxell's ACL until after he committed and now it's become some huge red flag and a talking point for Bama fans.

I get more of a kick out of some arguing that Leatherwood is better than Ashley despite Ashley being significantly higher ranked, yet say the other they are in on are better than Troxell because they are higher ranked.

Leatherwood has been dominating at all the camps, haven't heard anything about Ashley.

Then you must not follow recruiting very closely.

There's some big questions looming for Austin Troxell.
The Madison Academy rising senior offensive tackle tore his ACL during the first-round of the playoffs Nov. 5. So instead of starting at center for the reigning Class 3A state basketball champs as planned, he has spent the winter working hard in rehab to return for his senior season on the gridiron.

But continue on with your ignorance.

So let's see how "significantly higher" Ashley is rated than Leatherwood:
ESPN
Leatherwood is #9 overall, Ashley is #21. One of those other guys we have higher on the board than Troxell, Isaiah Wilson, is #2 overall. Wyatt Davis is #35. And because we are being transparent here, Troxell is #84.
Rivals
Isaiah Wilson is #5 overall, Wyatt Davis is #18, Calvin Ashley is #26 and Leatherwood is #51 overall. Leatherwood did just win the Rivals' 5-Star Challenge OL MVP so he'll probably get a bump in their next ranking. Troxell is #162.
247
Ashley is #14, Leatherwood is #18, Wyatt Davis is #25, Isaiah Wilson is #51 and Troxell is #74.
Scout
Ashley is #27, Wilson is #62, Leatherwood is #52, Davis is #24 and Troxell is #95.
I'm not sure when the sites will update their rankings again (probably after The Opening).
So, in closing, here are their rankings in the Composite:
LINK
12. Calvin Ashley
14. Wyatt Davis
19. Isaiah Wilson
20. Alex Leatherwood
80. Austin Troxell
Is eight spots in the Composite rankings considered "significant"? How about eighty spots?

You have an interesting definition of "significantly"
The 247 Composite has Ashley as the #3 OT. Leatherwood is the #5 OT.

quote:Let's be serious, it's 2016... A lot of players come back even stronger after ACL reconstruction. Also, he has his senior year to heal up and a long time until he will likely take the field in college. He will be fine.
No one knows how he'll come back
If Alabama passed over him, although I doubt they did, I hope we see another Von Bell/Tony Connor or Roc Thomas/Leonard Fournette situation.

quote:Yea, man, Alabama is going to sign four 5* offensive tackles in one class.
By NSD Baker and Leatherwood will be 5 stars to go along with Wyatt Davis, a soon to be Bama commit. Bama might fill the other OL spot with another 5 star
Wyatt Davis, Alex Leatherwood, Elliot Baker (he has a long way to go until 5* status) and another 5* yet to be named will all sign with Alabama.
How fricking delusional could you be?

Already there baw:
Elliott Baker - 5-Star
Wyatt Davis will probably be a Guard in college, but he could also play RT and he's a 5-star and Alabama leads for him. So we'll probably land 3 5-star offensive linemen. As for Isaiah Wilson? Who knows?
ETA: I know you are talking about the Composite ranking for Baker by saying that, but he gets a zero from ESPN for now because they haven't ranked JUCO guys yet.

The thing is, he played behind Cam Artis-Payne (lead the SEC in rushing) and Jovon Robinson at Auburn.
He started the Louisville game for Auburn in 2015, but got injured. Jovon Robinson also got injured that game, paving the way for Peyton Barber until late in the year. Gus Malzahn usually rides the hot hand, and it left Roc Thomas on the bench.
I was excited to see him in his new role at Auburn, but apparently he thought he needed a new start.

Only in Auburn would a difference of .0042 be considered significant.

I know the truth hurts, but you just have to deal with it. All four of Bama's OL commitments this year could be 5 star guys. Saban has finally unleashed Lane Kiffin in recruiting after keeping shackles on him the last two years.
