Also, A&M won 11 games and had the Heisman winner.

How did that help Baylor last year?

It's not a guaranteed harbinger of recruiting success.

We had a good recruiting class and it turned great. And Ole Miss has had top-25 classes routinely in the past decade or so.

I'm having a hard time understanding Ole Miss' sudden success...but that's a far cry from assuming that there is massive cheating. Maybe a group of these top players got together and decided to come in as a package and "take over" a program with potential. Not unheard of.

But you have to admit, this level of sudden success among the very top players is rather unprecedented.

I do think this is entirely plausible. You know, Freeze did land some good talent as Coach O's recruiting coordinator. A lot of people seem to forget that.

My personal belief is that we fell arse-backwards into this class to a degree. I don't think Nutt had the foresight to understand that RN and family togetherness would play so heavily in his recruitment. And then all the hype surrounding this guy and the pull he had on other players.

Entirely logical and I think that's what has happened. And to be honest, I think it's an anomaly. I don't see us landing this type of class every year, but I think Freeze will do an outstanding job. For all the comments about how highly ranked our class is -- we still won't lead the SEC. We're not going to beat Florida or Alabama or maybe even UGA. We get the #3 or #4 class in the conference, and people are going ballistic.

I find that more odd than anything. UT in a transition year after suffering some stutters the past few season. Coaching change at Auburn, as well. USC evaluates talent a bit differently (and exceptionally well for their system). Arkansas trying to recover this year. So many teams are transitioning, and we happen to overachieve and do extremely well this season on the field... and people can't figure that out?

Boggles my mind.

Recruiting coordinator is nothing more than a title. We know O was the master recruiter of that staff.

I don't dispute that.

But by his own admission, Coach O trained Freeze to recruit his way. Which Freeze touched upon with Orgeron's 365 recruiting mentality.

We also know from interviews and video that Freeze was integral in closing on such prospects as McCluster.

If Orgeron trained Freeze, I now have zero doubts. Orgeron is one of the dirtiest recruiters in the NCAA. I'd never claim he taught me CRAP if I were a coach.

I was referring to the constant recruitment of a player throughout the year. For example, there have been pictures of the prolific mail recruitment that the staff has employed to keep on the minds of recruits (all within NCAA guidelines), which goes out every single day.

One of the more hilarious stories I remember was when Dickerson was driving a car around SMU with A&M plates on it.

So, hold the frick on. By this definition, "recruiting bad players" is "subtle cheating."

The frick do you want us to do, NOT recruit good players? "Hey, guys, this Tunsil guy is a legit OT, but we better not recruit him because, you know, he's TOO good and stuff."

GTFO with that nonsense.

Nobody's saying OM is cheating.

Hell, in this very thread, you've admitted that the Aggies cheat. Now show me how Ole Miss is doing it more blatantly.

(HINT: Showing that good players are committed isn't evidence of cheating. That is called "begging the question" or "circular logic" in not-idiot circles.)

This guy gets it ... Robert N. And Treadwell told our staff they were gonna deliver all these guys and they did.. Were there some hundred $ high fives and make out sessions with dime pieces at bar involved too? Absolutely But the reason we're closing this way is RN ... Without him recruiting so hard for us we don't crack the top 15

Very smart thing to say!

Freeze is apparently a very able recruiter but to get to this level in Year 1 I think took the perfect recruiting storm. Nkemdiche to OM because of his brother was probably a lock. The key was likely Treadwell who Nkemdiche may have sewn up himself at the bowl game. Then the snowball started rolling downhill and has been getting bigger and bigger ever since picking up player after player.

That's an understatement! He got LT to change his flight to come to the bowl game, and it was all she wrote once that happened.

Playing time. SEC. Program on rise. Opportunity to be "the guy" who helps get them over the hump. Beautiful campus. Beautiful women. Premiere program in the state of Mississippi.

Ole Miss has always had a lot going for it. They've needed the right guy. I don't think they are doing anything any "dirtier" than they were 2 years ago. Just better.

Hope you enjoyed that golden era of football, State fans. It would seem Ole Miss is about to join Bama, LSU, and AU as teams that own that arse.
