This guy must have been a silent and Kirby wanted him to make it public to take away the sting you refer to.

Well played coaching maneuver by Kirby if that is the case.

The rumor is we have several more silent commits that will be spaced out,

Multiple UGA commits reported that we had 7 guys commit at G Day that wanted to announce that day but Kirby asked them to space out their commitments

Congrats on the big weekend but ... if Kirby really did that then someone needs to sit him down and have a talk with him about how things work as the HC in the SEC. He's obviously not been paying attention.

He didn't learn that from Saban.

There is no strategical value or advantage to be gained by "asking them to space-out their commitments" ... to the contrary.

Smart is basically an expert recruiter. Look at Alabama and look at how we finished our class out the first season he was involved. I'm sure he has a good understanding of what he is doing.

Except to keep our names in the media and to keep the fanbase happy. Most of us already forgot about Robertson and are celebrating Blount. Seems like a wise move right now.

There is a joke about Muschamp in there somewhere, but I'm too tired to figure it out.

Drive by garbage dump? I'm not so sure you understand much about "strategical" value anyways.

1) Stretching out public announcement = free press during a time when the football news cycle is about to get slow again for a while
2) You are also leaving other schools in the dark as to where they're committed, who their primary competition is to recruit against
2b) Causes other schools to expend resources (time) on a kid that they *may* now have little to no shot on
3) If a position group is getting "full" early on, a kid that isn't ready to pull the trigger may eliminate a school from their possible destinations just because they may feel that by the time they want to make a decision they may not be able to get a committable offer.

There's 3.5 just off the top of my head... feel free to provide some logical basis for why you feel it has *no* value/advantage... I'll hang up and listen.
