I don't understand this ranking. 10:8 in Indiana?

It's merely talent evaluation and a projection, it's not a stats competition. Justin Worley had incredible HS stats against better competition and was named Gatorade Player of the Year, he was also a consensus 3* recruit and that's exactly how he played.

Meh. I'd rather have a guy that plays against better competition in South Florida in Jake Allen than a kid from Indiana with 10 TD's and 8 INT's. But thats just me.

Judging a high school quarterback solely off of stats is pretty stupid.

junior quarterback Hunter Johnson of Brownsburg (Ind.) High School on Sunday became the latest highly touted quarterback to choose Tennessee, and 247Sports national analysts Barton Simmons and Steve Wiltfong said there’s a reason he’s ranked the nation’s No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class.

“For one, he’s kind of a big, strapping guy,” said Simmons, 247Sports’ director of scouting. “He’s a strong kid, broad-shouldered. He’s already very physically advanced and the type of quarterback that can sit in the pocket, take a couple of hits and deliver, and have that kind of strength and confidence in the pocket.

“He’s got a really elite-level arm. When he’s on, there’s not many that are better in his class. And I think he can make every throw that you want. I think he’s a kid with athleticism that can function in a lot of different types of offenses.

quote:

“Then, you watch the film and he’s making throws that not many people in his class can make. From an arm-talent standpoint, and athletic ability, he’s got everything you’re looking for. He’s a big-time guy with big-time ability.

“I mean, he’s a guy that ran in the track state finals as a sophomore at 200 pounds. You don’t see very many quarterbacks running in the state track finals, so that just shows you what kind of athletic ability he has on top of being a really good quarterback. He’s a competitor, a multiple-sport athlete. Just has a lot going for him.

“He’s the total package from a physical standpoint, athletic standpoint. And then you talk about the intangibles that he brings to the table. He’s the type of guy that you want at the forefront of your football program.”

Good pick up regardless, and I understand how much high school rankings are based off of projections, but I don't understand how a guy can be ranked the best high school quarterback in his class solely based off of projections and with extremely average results on the field. I know he has two more years to change that lack of on field production, but it is a little strange to be ranked so high with such little production.

Yeah, that really surprised me. Sounds like he's the second coming of Andrew Luck with that speed on top of his size and arm.

Anyone remember the last guy that Tennessee pulled that was the #1 QB in his class overall? He went on to have a somewhat decent career

I'm not sure why. Didn't they just sign a sterling 2* out of TX?

Exactly, Hunter could be UT's Driskel guys, sure he's even less proven than Jeff was but his physical attributes are almost as good.

No, Tennessee can never miss on any player, ever. anybody that Butch recruits is the greatest of all time at his position. Tennessee has the best quarterback, the best back up, the best third string, the best 2016 commit, the best 2017 commit, the best 2018 commit, the best 2026 commit.

Whether it's true or not, thats what they'll try to convince you. You can't have a legitimate conversation about one of their players, because they're so delusional about their players.

Thanks for the high praises

We won't let you on the bandwagon though.
