Anyone that follows recruiting, including LSU fans who are honest with themselves, will tell you that ESPN is exponentially worse than the rest.

No. Anyone who follows recruiting will tell you 247 is the best, of the 4, with the rest all being equally shitty.

They will also tell you that composite is the only one that actually matters.

So, once again, nice try.

And yet our logo was shown in that coveted #1 spot all day on ESPNU, ESPN2, and ESPN

They've only mentioned LSU about once in around 6 hours of coverage, FWIW.

Bama has been on there non-stop because we've picked up 3 5* linebackers and a 4* cornerback.

How many times have they shown the class rankings? And out of those times, how many did it show LSU at the #1 spot?

Over, and over, and over. And it matters not.

After Fulton committed, ESPN announcers pointed out that LSU had tied a record for the most ESPN 300 recruits and "has a stranglehold on the No. 1 class for 2016".

Stranglehold. #1 class. Coming from the Worldwide Leader in Sports. Hey, we didn't have the best class this year but, we'll take that free pub all day.

Sucks that all that publicity gets thrown out while everyone who matters is still in school.

Good point. But really, who pays attention to recruiting sites the way we do? I would imagine it is a pretty small demographic to begin with. Then you factor in that there are 4 major sites all with their own rankings.

I would have to imagine the common fan (who doesn't pay attention to any of this shite) casually looks at ESPN to see who they picked up for the first time all year.

Besides, there's a reason all these recruits chose ESPN as their medium for announcing their decision. They are the king of sports. The king of sports ranked us numero uno. Like I said, not bad for LSU

I think you have to pay at ESPN to even view the commit list for each team.

If I could fix ESPN:

1. Devote more time and energy into evaluating prospects

2. Be more transparent about how their team rankings are formulated

3. Allow me to view commits from my team and highlights without having to pay to be an "INsider"

The thing is, ESPN could monopolize the industry if they were willing to put in the work. They just won't invest. 247, Rivals, and Scout invest MILLIONS in recruiting. ESPN invests in signing day. They put on a good production, but they're missing the whole product.

We all know 247 is pretty legit. ESPN top 300 decent. Rivals is notorious for bumping players

When USC was the media favorite they bumped players that got offered by USC, now they bump Alabama recruits. It's embarrassing how bad Rivals is at upgrading the stars.

They bump players because those coaching staff are superb at evaluating talent so they assume those guys know more than your average beat writer scout, and they do. The schools resources >>>>> the sites. This is why those bumps happen, like it or not.

That's on them and their business plan. As for the production, you are absolutely right. They do put on a big production that bodes well with recruits and the average fan.

The average fan is not like you and I. When they think of ESPN, they automatically assume credibility (whether they deserve it or not). ESPN puts on one of the biggest High School All-Star games in the entire country, which resonates well with recruits. They pay attention to ESPN and their recruiting services more than you actually want to believe.

When SportsCenter comes on at 5, no one will be paying to see LSU finishing up the recruiting cycle as the #1 class in the nation.

Well, the fans don't play last time I checked. So, if you want a moral victory, you can have it. In reality other teams have better recruiting classes. Not saying LSUs class isn't extremely good, but c'mon with that logic.

EDIT: A fan isn't going to influence a player to go to a particular school because ESPN says they have the best class.

Will ESPN be fixing their rankings or will they just be wrong?

I follow the SEC Network so...

Congratulations (Gumps) on the #3 recruiting class! Nice job! Sorry but you will have to endure countless references to LSU's #1 Recruiting Class in 2016! Maybe they will also promote the 247/Rivals/Scout rankings during next years games...but I doubt it.
