No big surprise but a Longhorn site moderator said the Zaire camp told him that he is planning on going to Florida and that Zaire is convinced that the SEC will overturn the rule to help Florida snag Zaire.

Texas, Wisconsin and not sure who else were hoping to land Zaire but looks like Zaire has pushed chips all in on attending Florida. The Zaire camp is confident.

He was never serious about Texas or the other schools, It was all a smoke screen to get Zaire into Florida under the radar. The Zaire source said he hasn't even applied at Texas.

As a Gator fan, I hope this isn't true. The last thing we need is another transfer QB. We need to develop a QB that will give us stability for multiple years instead of a one hit wonder, unless of course Cam Newton still has a year of eligibility.

You had one, but McElwain was feeding him steroids with his Cheerios

1. Good luck on getting the SEC to change the rule
2. Is Zaire even a fit for what McElwain wants to do on offense? Maybe if Urban was still at Florida.

Malik Zaire is an upgrade from Franks as a freshman. I would definitely grab him. He's pretty decent. You can slowly work in Franks with Zaire there and not throw him to wolves when he's probably still in need of development from being the project he is.

Maybe, but I am not convinced that Franks was going to start the season anyway. I think there is a good chance that Del Rio will be the starter and I don't believe that Zaire can come in off the street and be better than a QB that has been in the system for 3 years. Del Rio has his faults but when healthy he managed the game pretty well.

I believe the correct name is the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it is no longer called Zaire

Del Rio is pretty awful, definitely think Zaire is an upgrade. He's played pretty well when he's been given the chance. I think Zaire gives UF the chance to be a little more relevant this year than Del Rio or Franks would otherwise have you. Kind of see a repeat of the last 2 years with those guys and the offense (probable 4 losses or so).

And Florida STILL won't have a QB. Much ado for not much.

Hopefully it's not true . He is not good enough to be worth keeping the freshmen on the bench another year.

I haven't been keeping up with this. Which rule prevents his transfer?

If we're going after Zaire then that likely means the staff thinks that Franks could benefit from another year sitting

Zaire’s potential transfer to Florida is contingent on the SEC altering a grad transfer rule. Two previous graduate transfers to land at Florida did not meet academic requirements while at Florida and the SEC rule restricts Florida from taking any more graduate transfers for three years, starting in 2016 unless a waiver is granted.
