"The Walton Family Foundation of Bentonville will significantly increase its grants in Northwest Arkansas and the Delta over the next six years, with plans to invest $302 million in what it considers its "home region."

The grants will help fund everything from performing arts in Northwest Arkansas to Civil War and cultural heritage tourism in the Delta (Helena, Arkansas). In both areas, education will be a priority. The foundation defines its home region as Northwest Arkansas and the Delta region of Arkansas and Mississippi (One county)."

"Between now and 2020 in Northwest Arkansas, the foundation will focus on expanding high-achieving school options, establishing the region as a leader in arts and cultural amenities, strengthening regional economic development and preserving a "sense of place," which translates to making the area a more desirable place to live and one that will attract businesses, Brothers said."

$50MM a year invested in Arkansas until 2020 and mostly in NWA.

Mississippi you better continue to shop at Walmart as they are giving you a small bone because you're across the river.

This new cash will accommodate our stunning $1.2 billion dollar museum. Thank you Alice Walton.

I'll have so many photos for the upcoming years.

Or we can shop locally instead of transferring our wealth to you.

Arkansas will always have the hurdle of not having a major business hub anywhere nearby. This will be what always holds Arky and Mississippi back from seeing major progress like Alabama and Louisiana will enjoy in coming decades.

I was unaware that I ever started shopping there.

What exactly do you think NWA is? Its problem is that it is difficult to reach.

I could be there from NYC on a nonstop flight. It's accessible by interstate. What exactly makes it hard to reach?

5 hours to KC, St. Louis, Dallas, and Memphis. 3 hour drive to OKC, 1 1/2 hours to Tulsa. Not all that hard to reach. How many big markets are that far from ole miss, miss st, bama, and auburn?

I recently went to the museum. They did a great job w/ it. The entire thing is free, including admission and an audio tour.

NWA is definitely on the upswing with all of that Wal-Mart money. There seems like there will be a limit to the progress though, since it is just one company and there isn't a whole lot of infrastructure there to start.

SunHog,

I like you buddy...you know that.

But you don't even live in Arkansas. You left for greener pastures.

Therefore, you have no credibility in this issue nor do you really care.

What are you labeling as a major business hub?

Are you using Houston and Atlanta as your major business hubs? Also, what kind of business are we talking about here?
