One more year and them Viles and Hawgs are going to be contending.

Tennessee needs about 10 more solid players and a stud quarterback to contend for the SEC championship.

Them Hawgs, kinda my favorite next to Bama in the West--needs a dual-threat quarterback and about 10 more real players.

But both teams look as if they are emerging from the Fulmer, Dooley, Kiffin, Petrino messes.

I understand you most likely have legitimate reasoning that I think you explained before, but I can't get over that you're a Dawg and a Gamecock fan.

Arkansas will probably never win an SEC championship.

Tennessee could make it back into contention eventually.

ETA: Obviously talking football. Settle down track and field fans.

Nothing compares to the AAC officials that we had on Saturday night.

Short version. I was never a real college football fan until Dooley began winning in 1965. I got caught up in that hysteria while stationed at NAS Atlanta. Bunch of us used to pile in cars and go watch them practice. I got to know him a little and better a few years later when I was a reporter in Lancaster. I actually put him onto a couple players.

But I love USC to my soul. It changed my life. No way I could ever pull against the Gamecocks, whether they are winning or losing.

And, yes, I like Bama because of the late Pat Trammel and Coach Bryant.

To clarify, I don't think you're any less of a fan or anything.

I think anyone who has been really watching the two programs can see the progress - really huge gains all around. Both are emerging from the ashes of their respective disasters and both are improving their play. It's just a matter of when it happens rather than if it happens.

How high can Arkansas go is probably the biggest question. It's going to be fun to watch how it all plays out.

Tennessee will contend for the weak a_ _ East quicker than the hogs will make any progress in the big, bad West.
