Would you rather have Johnny Jones or Mark Fox?

Jones is a great recruiter, below average coach.

Fox is a below average recruiter, above average coach.

Totally different types of program CEOs, but I think I would prefer Jones.

I respect Fox's Xs and Os game alot. If he could recruit at an above average level he could do big things.

Let Johnny Jones coach for a bit, build up the roster, then fire him and hire a respectable coach so he can walk into a good situation.

Both got their teams to the NCAA Tournament last season.

Probably Jones, simply because he'll likely get you better players year in and year out.

But that's the thing, we talk about guys like Fox like they will magically start recruting. He won't. He is who he is.

It's just interesting that good coaches who can't recruit are looked at much more fondly than the opposite types.

This would be the best option.

Good point. Never really thought of it like that. I'd say Pitino is a good example of doing both very well.

Yeah, but it's a lot of 3 or 4-year guys. Kinda what you need to base your class off of when you lose Simmons, Quarterman, and Hornsby.

The class the year after that should be very good again.

I'd take them both over Avery. The guy is an absolute disaster

Plus it's not like Johnny won't get you to the tourney. He's about to get LSU their second consecutive NCAA appearance.

Yea, I think Jones gets a bad rap. His resume so far is pretty dang solid.

He gets penalized for signing great players.

He really was a terrible hire. I mean better than grant but if Alabama had gotten Marshall I might be afraid. No one is concerned about a guy who couldn't get a job like Avery.
