Would Florida fans be willing to accept Jim McElwain?

Former Bama and Fresno coordinator turned head coach recently. Hell of a HC though. Doing great things at CSU over the course of a few years. I personally think it wouldn't be that bad of a hire. Dude is a solid recruiter too.

Not the top of my list but I wouldn't be mad at it

Has more west coast recruiting ties from what I gather. Dude has done a solid job at CSU though.

Doubt he's a big enough "name." Whoever they hire is going to have to connections in recruiting in the state of Florida. I think this has to be at the top of the list of requirements.

Not really. He's down the list.

7.5 mil buyout, FL on the hook for several mil to current staff. Be a pretty big investment on someone who might not excite the fan base and recruits.

Hijack: coaching tree

If Kiffin leaves and becomes a successful HC somewhere, does he count as part of Saban's tree, or no because he's already been a HC?

Don't want any of that Bama offense crap after 4 years of Derp, but would settle for him as like 5th option.

I think he counts because he wasn't a great HC per-Saban.

Col St before McElwain:

3-9
3-9

Since Coach Mac:
4-8
8-5
9-1 (30th in scoring, 13th in passing, 19th in total offense, 3rd in passing efficiency, 7th in 3rd down conversions,)

Not saying he's the best choice by any means... but he would be pretty solid, imo. And while he's got ties to the West Coast, being at Bama a couple of years, he's got contacts around here too now.

No thanks. He still smells funny.

Don't have any interest in him. We've been tight with all the new SEC money. It's time to spend some on a great coach.

I would say so.

No implying McElwain....but what great coach is there left? Unless Florida pulls another Auburn and somehow runs into a lucky arse hire, no notable head coach is readily available unless Gary Patterson for example gets deported to Florida.

McElwain would be settling for what was left and I would find it disappointing.

It's a tad early to speculate. More chips need to fall.

Fair enough. I think Florida is too notable a program to get another mediocre coach for what its worth.

He's done a good job, but he would be a bit lower on the list
