Using 247 Composite Rankings

2006
Matt Stafford (#1 overall) (Georgia)
Mitch Mustain (#7 overall) (Arkansas)
Tim Tebow (#17 overall) (Florida)

2007
John Brantley (#26 overall) (Florida)

2008
none

2009
Russell Shepard (#3 overall) (LSU)
Aaron Murray (#18 overall) (Georgia)

2010
Phillip Sims (#29 overall) (Alabama)

2011
Jeff Driskel (#16 overall) (Florida)

2012
none

2013
none

2014
Kyle Allen (#10 overall) (Texas A&M)

2015
Blake Barnett (#21 overall) (Alabama)
Kyler Murray (#33 overall) (Texas A&M)

2016
Shea Patterson (#4 overall) (Ole Miss)
Jacob Eason (#5 overall) (Georgia)

Ranking their college success.....
1. Tim Tebow (Florida)
2. Aaron Murray (Georgia)
3. Matt Stafford (Georgia)

Then who? Pretty much everyone else either transferred or played another position. Pretty nuts to look at in review.

Correct - was Cam Newton a 5-star coming out of junior college? I couldn't remember. He was a high 4-star out of high school.

I think Hurts was a 4 star in most rankings, and beat out 5 star Barnett. I think McCarron was a 4 star, and he beat 5 star Phillip Sims.

edit: Just more examples that, though rankings are fun to watch, and generally fairly accurate, they are also often wrong.

Yes - as did many others. The point was just to note how inexact a science QB recruiting can be, as evident by the results noted above.

1 of those is not like the others. We got hosed in that deal.

QB talent is also such a raw skill compared to other positions. It requires so much coaching and scheme fit to live up to it's potential. Some of those guys had overrated talent, but some of them could have thrived with proper coaching and scheme. And some of them still may (Barnett, K. Murray, Allen).

"The Tuscaloosa News' summer study of every SEC quarterback signee since 2007 showed 62.4 percent who had finished their college eligibility transferred at least once."

I'm pretty sure Barnett is going to be very good for somebody. I think most unbiased observers would call him a more accurate passer than Hurts. They're both just freshmen, but I think Barnett has more pro potential.

I agree - he has a "5-star" skill set. If he picks the right place and works hard he will play in the NFL.

Agreed, he just has to get out of his own way. His head is the only reason he was beat out by Hurts.

Yep. Damian Williams was the only one that amounted to much.

Yep. Damien Williams (WR USC) was the only one worth a crap out of those 4.

Jeff Driskel was a 5-star! Holy crap. Muschamp just ruined him.
