With Baseball days away, create your all-time SEC Lineup (based on MLB success)

Based on their PROFESSIONAL careers (I used total WAR from Baseball Reference as a general guideline)
SP - Cliff Lee, Arkansas
CP - Bobby Thigpen, Mississippi State
C - Alex Avila, Alabama
1B - Todd Helton, Tennessee
2B - Ian Kinsler, Missouri
SS - Robby Thompson, Florida
3B - Josh Donaldson, Auburn
OF - Albert Belle, LSU
OF - Rafael Palmeiro, Mississippi State
OF - Kevin McReynolds, Arkansas
DH - Frank Thomas, Auburn
And yes, I realize Kinsler and McReynolds didn't actually play in the SEC, but their teams are here now and that's how these things generally work.
Pitching, 2B (tons of solid MLB 2B), 1B have incredible depth. Almost nothing to work with at catcher. Not a lot in the OF, either, though there are some young players who might change that in the coming years.

Manager - Casey Stengall - Ole Miss

Gump, are you plain stupid?
How in the world did you miss MSU's Will Clark.
The man played 14 years in the Show, hitting 284 homeruns, 2176 hits and had a lifetime batting average of .303
How could you have been so outright stupid.

Because he shares a position with Frank Thomas (hall of famer) and Todd Helton (future hall of famer).
Therefore he ain't starting.

Who?
Bo Jackson's career may have been cut short, but purely from a defensive standpoint I don't see how you leave a prime Bo Jackson out of the outfield. Never hit for great average but could hit bombs at least.

This list is invalid without Todd Walker from LSU at 2nd base. He's possibly the best lefty hitter ever in the SEC and LSU all-time great.

Buck Showalter, MSU would be in the running for manager.

You could maybe make the case for Aaron Hill over Robby Thompson at SS. Their MLB numbers are pretty similar, maybe even leaning towards Hill... Surprised there aren't any better SS

I would put someone else at catcher. He's not even the best current SEC catcher in the major leagues. Mike Zunino would take the honor IMO

Max Scherzer (another one who didn't play in the SEC but went to Mizzou) has turned out pretty well...not sure if you'd put him over Cliff Lee yet but probably will by the time he's done.

People in this thread seem to forget that this is the basis

Robby Thompson was one of my favorite players with the Giants, but I would still probably give the SS nod to Donny Kessinger of Ole Miss.

Yep, he and David Price were two of the next few in line.

Zunino is a career .195 major league hitter. Avila went to an all star game at the very least.
Like I said, not a lot of great options there. Honestly, probably should give the nod to David Ross, but while he is the man his career numbers are pretty meh. And he was mostly a backup.

Zunino fricking sucks
James McCann is the best SEC catcher currently in the majors unless I'm missing someone. But Avila's career > what McCann has done so far for sure
Actually I forgot Yan Gomes played at Tennessee
