Everything runs in cycles in College Football. Today all the demand for HCs is targeted toward offensive minded coaches. At some point in the near future, that direction will change again. Assistants like Kiffin and Lashlee may be seeing their Window closing very soon.

If you're an offensive guy just hire a good coordinator and just blame everything on him when shite hits the fan.

Has Lashlee's window ever been open?

I don't recall many programs having sought out Rhett for a HC position.

After 2013 and the Broyles Award Nomination followed by the 2014 Offensive production, he was getting feelers from Mid-major schools. If AU had been productive in 2015, he would have gotten some bigger school offers. Unlike Kiffin, he doesn't have baggage.

So basically for the last two seasons while running his offense (if you want to call it his) AU has declined in production, had severe difficulty scoring in the red zone, proven to be erratic to down right idiotic in the area of play calling, has failed to evaluate his own roster and put the best player on the field, and shown an inability to develop an SEC level QB?

I fail to see how Rhett is a hot commodity in the offensive ranks at the moment. If he ever had a window of opportunity, it slammed shut after that Nov 8, 2014 loss to aTm in JHS.

He has interviewed for a few jobs and his name comes up every year...not so much after last year.

There's also that whole mess of who is actually calling the plays, coaching the QBs etc.

Which in and of itself does not provide positive optics for an OC seeking a HC position elsewhere. Agree?

You finally figured out the point of the OP. The window for these assistants is small while they are hot, and the fact that the shift toward Defensive minded coaches makes it more critical they take advantage of their situations. With Lashlee he was considered a hot prospect when he was putting 630 yards on Saban/Smart, now he is fighting for his job two years later. Same could be said for Huge Freeze for other reasons. Kiffins issues are an entirely different matter.

Ehh, IMHO there is a wide divide when comparing Kiffin & Lashlee.

Kiffin has proven multiple times that he can train/develop a QB whether it's one he inherited or a truefrosh. He has proven as the years pass that he can be innovative and creative with offensive schemes. That doesn't change the fact that he frustrates the hell out of me in the 1st half of every damn game.

Lashlee on the other hand... who knows how much is Lashlee or Malzhan at this point? The AU offense has been so hit 'n miss the last 2 1/2 seasons that it's hard to tell.

I remember back in Chizik's days folks repeatedly saying Chizik was "holding back" Malzhan's offense and that's why the production dropped. Now folks say Malzhan meddles too much in the offense and won't take his hands off the game-plan and play calling and that's why the production dropped.
