It's not that they didn't believe he fit the booster bill by what is known now, it's at least put out to believe that they just didn't know he qualified as one and given he is qualified as one because of baseball tickets, I kinda believe them.

But to put the nail in the coffin of the FCA director being a booster and whether Freeze knew, didn't know, or used him to recruit... Here's what most of y'all don't know... The recruit in question, the recruit whose house he was in with Freeze, we were his only sec offer. He was a 3* who is entering his 4th year in the program and hasn't played. That's all you need to know as to whether the FCA director was used maliciously or not. There were other Memphis kids we got and didn't get that were much higher rated that this guy was not apart of their recruitment. The reason being that those recruits were not so underprivileged that they couldn't make recruiting visits, have a phone to answer coaches, or from a neighborhood that is full of crime. The only recruit that was highly rated that this guy helped out didn't even commit to OM. He paid for his phone bill too but it wasn't a violation because he didn't buy baseball tickets to the school he committed to. Told another kid who walked on at OM he was an idiot and should take the full ride to ASU that was offered.

Everything above is why OM "can't wait to tell their side of the story". When you see booster inside house with head coach as a headline it sounds egregious, but when you actually know the details it's common sense that it was a harmless mistake that didn't result in any type of recruiting scandal.
Y'all didn't have even one coach question the FCA director's involvement in recruiting? Is it normal operating procedure for your coaches to coordinate multiple times with an outsider to schedule recruiting visits, provide transportation, meals, lodging, etc and not get vetted through the compliance office or the AD?

Supposedly the compliance department approved it because they only looked at his standing with the football program. But once again, if he only did this for a 3* we were getting anyway then he's doing it for the kid, not the unversity. I could understand being skeptical if this was done for someone others wanted but given we were his best offer, I don't understand why it's a subject of discussion when he did the same thing for players who went to arky state, UT Martin, and others.

So this is why you believe he's a phony? Because he won't put himself in a stupid position for no reason at all

Ahh. So you should only have to do a deposition if you think its a good reason. Got it. I think that is in the Bible

You're not convincing anyone here that the Ole Miss program is clean, you probably don't even believe that yourself. At this point it's down to how harsh the NCAA will be, not if they're going to be harsh at all. There's no point in hashing this out every day.

I'm sure the OM Administration covered all of this during the lengthy investigation. The NCAA still went through months of material gathering and threw a Level I violation on the NOA and specifically named Freeze with this Booster. OM Compliance could have vetted Hughes' activities through the NCAA before the "mistakes" piled up. Maybe the Hughes involvement coupled with the other stuff just antagonized the NCAA?

OleMiss walked on the edge last summer with the months of free loaner cars to LT (another failure to monitor by OM Compliance) while still under NCAA investigation. Couple that with the draft night fiasco and how could the NCAA investigators not be pissed. It's like they piled Level I's for football one on top of the other to make damn sure a few of them stuck when it made it the COI stage.

Archie Manning hired CHF because he was the easiest conduit to cheat through, not because he was the best available coach.

Good ol boys cheat... If you're in MS and you hire a coach from New Hampshire the you're probably running a clean program obviously. (thanks to NCAA findings)

Yep. They hired the guy most willing to say "yes sir" and to know when to look away.

Bingo!

Freeze is a Mississippi good ole boy, he knows how things work in the back channels of recruiting and so does Maurice Harris - some folks got sloppy in their dealings and now Hugh feels bad about the "mistakes" that were made. Harris knows the Memphis scene well and has been with Freeze for years at two schools.

Great post and point. The FCA stuff happened with '13 class before any scrutiny came out but the loaner cars, you're spot on. I hate Dan Wolken and think he has a serious vendetta against Freeze but this was basically his question. How can you not dot all your i's and cross all your t's when everyone was accusing you of cheating. Even Freeze had to admit it was a good question.

Hell no I don't. We are in the SEC and win recruiting battles. Nothing I've said in this post indicates that I believe OM is clean. It is all about whether Freeze is phony with his faith or not. I don't think him knowing boosters sling money around makes him less of a Christian. I do believe he has a "I just don't wanna know" approach.

With the Rebelites, it's going to take Freeze getting caught with a "Dead Woman" or "Live Boy" for them to turn on the Reverend Freeze.

Y'all ignore the good works he does that proves he is close to God like not allowing cursing in the locker room, having team church every weekend, taking players on mission trips, and act like taking troubled kids makes him less christian.

I would never attempt to bring doubt to Coach Freeze's faith in God, but stating that his public "works" is a measure of his closeness to God, you know absolutely nothing about Christianity or what is means to be a Christian.

Why do I think he's fake? Ok, boosters are taking care of him now and he doesn't "know" what goes on.

However, all that Michael oher stuff, and others that were steered to ole miss, he was up to his shoulders in that shady shite. Ask high school coaches in Memphis their opinion of him.
