My first thought when I saw the hire was...who? Looked at his background a bit, and he seems to be the typical mid major hire. Could boom, could bust.

Pretty much what I expected LSU to do.

Im guessing hes making less than your DC?

What do the LSU fans think? Like the hire? Hate it? Care at all?

He's 1000x better than jones. Jones looked like he was casually waiting at a bus stop during games and held onto timeouts like life savings

I really like Wade honestly. If you look deep into his resume, his teams play very disciplined. He is definitely an upgrade over Johnny, and he brings energy to the program that we have not had in a long time. He can recruit pretty well, and he is good with in game coaching. I think it will take 3 years to actually fix all the issues, but I would not be surprised to see a quick turn around. Overall, I am the most excited for LSU basketball then I have been in a very long time.

Like the hire. He says he enjoys building a program and that is what we need at this point. I don't expect overnight success. Have to get the players first. I would bet we at least play better defense next year....so that would be a start.

By far the hire I am most excited about in my lifetime for a Major LSU sport

I am 30

We have hired

Archer
Hallman
Dinardo
Saban
Miles
Brady
Johnson
Jones
Smoke
Maineri

This is by far the most excitable hire to me. Maineri is prolly second because I knew he had a great resume. But I wasn't as "excited"because baseball had always been good for me for the most part

When he was coaching at Chattanooga I went and saw them play a few games. They were a fun team to watch. I think he'll do fine at LSU

Dude we had Johnny Jones as our coach. Any halfway competent coach is a win for us

It's much too early in his coaching career to gauge what success he will have. If LSU likes the hire though, more power to them.

Yeah, mid major hires always have the advantage of the unknown. They havent failed yet, so you can have optimism.

Could be shite, could be great. Could be somewhere in between. Who knows.

Id imaging though, that LSU fans are just happy that Jones isnt there anymore. Doesnt really matter who they hired.

All mid majors are a crap shoot. It's just what it is. But there's not many more than 5 P5 coaches that LSU would want that are looking to make a move.

He was probably in the conversation for other P5 jobs. It's not a bad hire. We just don't know if it's a good one. Only way to know is to wait and see.

As far as a coach, he's an obvious upgrade over JJ.

Remember the last VCU coach who had success at the job that he left for?

He did say if you play hard right out of hate, it's worth 6 points. I agree with that

A good hire for LSU, given what they have had to endure with Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones. Why not take a chance on a young up-and-comer? He wasn't going to be at VCU for long.

As others have pointed out, you don't know how mid-major coaches will translate in a power conference, and the VCU to P5 coaching track record isn't great, but Wade is a bit different in that VCU wasn't his first head coaching gig. He's at least shown something, albeit a small sample size, at Chattanooga.

It also looks like he can recruit a little bit.

Ninety percent true. I did not want Kermit Davis.

Spot-on analysis. Better to roll the dice and gamble than go for a "safe" hire or worse. Jones was a terrible hire and he only got the gig after almost everyone turned them down. I'm stunned they were able to land Wade.
