Will the SEC West cannibalize itself this year?

I was curious to see who, possibly, had the toughest schedule this year. Alabama has 9 teams ranked in nearly every preseason top 25 (the entire West division is ranked, plus Tennessee and Georgia from the East, plus Wisconsin).
The next favorite to win the West, Auburn, has a similarly tough road to traverse, with the West and UGA, including a murder's row of Arkansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and UGA all in a row. Louisville, while not quite Wisconsin level, is still a tough opener.
I know we talk about the West killing itself, but it really hasn't happened that much (though I suppose one might make the argument that the teams are beaten up by post season, I'm not here to discuss that). Since 2009, the SEC West winner has been playing in the title game or in the title playoffs, so the opportunities were there regardless of the difficulty of the West.
Is this the season that no one escapes without at least two losses? Will an SEC East team make their way through? Will UGA having to play Alabama and Auburn pave the way for another East team to the SECCG, only to continue the East's losing streak (currently at 6)?
A little SECCG trivia (to make a potentially boring thread a *little* more interesting):
There was a point when the SEC West was a miserable 1-6 in the SECCG. Since that point, they have gone 11-5 to take a 12-11 lead in the game.
The East had a 6 game win streak in the 90s; the West currently has a 6 game win streak. Sandwiched between those two streaks is a back and forth between the East and West that never saw either side take more than a 2 game lead (the West was briefly 4-2 during that time frame [1999-2008], only for the East to win two in a row to tie it at 4-4, which the next two games were split by LSU and Florida [2008], ending the "time between the streaks" at 6-6).
If Alabama makes this year's SECCG and Florida does not, they will tie the Gators for the most appearances (10), though they will not surpass them in wins regardless of the outcome (Florida is 7-3; Alabama is currently 5-4).
The average score during the streak is 44 - 21. Aside from the epic 2012 SECCG of Alabama vs Georgia, no team has gotten closer than 17 points (and 3 games decided by 4 or more touchdowns).

Yes, it's a year to just hope your team eats more than others.
So many question marks for each team, schedules are different but rather balanced, and ANYTHING can happen in the SEC.
Can't wait.

I think the usual suspects surface to the top of the west
Bama will be Bama
LSU will be improved
Arkansas will get brought back down to earth
aTm should have an improved D
AU will be good
OM will have a top 3 D
State will get brought back down to earth
IMO

I don't think we will see any team run away with the west this year. I could easily see 3 or 4 teams with 2 losses each. It should be interesting.

I think it is more likely that the winner of the West has 2 losses than 0 losses.

This season should be fun and I expect the usual suspects to be at or near the top of the leaderboard all season.

Those are some excellent points you made there Skrayper. About the only prediction I am going to make is that it is likely we will see a good team in the West finish with, at best, a very mediocre record and promptly pound sand in their over-matched bowl opponent.

I thought the west was the best division eva last year? It didn't happen then.
I could see a bunch of two loss teams though because the West will be down.

We will, so I guess it won't.

I could see no SEC team in the playoffs this year.

Lol. Arkansas fans aren't the ones needing to come back down. Nobody outside of Baton Rouge expects LSU to be any good. Overrated RB, retarded coach, horrible DC, etc.

Literally (one of the few instances where that word applies) no one has a clue.
Drawing random team names from a hat makes as much sense as predicting divisional outcomes; yet some act as though they have insight that others don't.
Upsets, injuries, "fluke" losses/wins, darkhorses who seemingly come outta nowhere ... each happen.
But I enjoy watching folks verbally battle the whole deal.

Maybe, I'm hungry.

I still don't understand the Auburn hype - and strangely enough, I actually like Auburn.
Don't think anyone in the SECW goes undefeated unfortunately. Too many teams that are fairly equivalent.

You always have to wait until the games are played to know if there is an elite team, but heading into the season there doesn't appear to be an elite team and this could be the year where an Ole Miss or Arkansas pulls it off to win the conference. Doubtful that will happen though, but if it were to happen, this could be one of those years.

And that would be a travesty.
Suppose a West team with 2 losses wins the SECCG. Are we really okay with not having an SEC team in the playoffs?
I'm still not sure why any SEC fan would've been for a playoff system when they had a team in the championship game 8 years in a row, especially if there is not a conference championship requirement.
It won't take many years of a 2-loss SEC team not making the playoffs to either require conference champions, or expand the field, or both.

Anything can happen in the West this year. Any of the 7 truly could win the division.
I tend to think Miss St falls back down this year but maybe Prescott can carry them. Also would guess the Aggies still struggle a little because they need another year before their D should be much improved.
I think Arkansas will be solid this year. LSU is highly volatile and it depends on QB play. With good QB play they are in the playoff picture. Bama is Bama and I can't see them falling out of the picture with the talent they have. I am very curious to see what Ole Miss and Auburn do. Both are pretty hyped up right now but everyone cannot do well in the division.
