Will the SEC champion ever be left out of the playoffs?

Does anyone ever see that happening at least in the near future?

If the SEC champion has 2 or more losses, sure. One loss or fewer, no.

The only scenario I could see for that happening is a 2 (or somehow more) loss SEC champ when there are a couple undefeated and 1 loss champs to choose from.
What would really stir the pot is if a non power conference team with national appeal like Boise goes undefeated. Who gets left out then?

If it's Arkansas then there is a good chance the SEC will get left out.

Only if there is an upset in the SEC championship game.
Which never seems to happen.

Yeah, obviously. It's not like there's a built in clause that the champ has to go.
If the SEC champ has 2 losses and the ACC/pac/big12/big10 champs/notre dame are all undefeated what do you think would happen?

I could even see a scenario whereby a one-loss non-division champ gets in while a 2 or 3 loss SEC champion gets left out.
Imagine if UGA wins the SEC CG in 2011. Bama gets in while Georgia and maybe LSU are left out.

Sure there will be a year when the SEC doesn't have a playoff representation.

UGA will probably try its best to be left out whenever we win the SEC again.

I think so. It is quite possible that this year the SEC could have a two loss champion.
I would hate to see it happen, but could definitely see them getting jumped over. And let's be honest, last year's bowl season did not exactly strengthen the SEC argument.

Make that the last two years, not just last year.

Can't argue with that. I think the arguments claiming that the SEC's reign is over are overblown.
Down year? Sure.
I expect the conference will get back to winning 7-9/11-12 bowl games this year. Also, aside from Mizzou shitting the bed against Indiana, the conference did extremely well in OOC games during the regular season with some pretty big wins.

Yes, it will happen to Uga one day.

The simple answer is Yes to the OP.

The State of GA curse is alive and well.

Yes the years UGA wins the SEC, just like during the BCS SEC run

It won't be GA, it'll be AU. And it will be glorious.

It's going to happen at least once within the next 5-10 years

If the other 4 conference champs are undefeated (or 1 loss) and the SEC champ has 2 losses it would happen.
I mean, there are 5 major conferences and 4 spots, eventually the SEC will be the team that gets left out, will just take a very particular set of circumstances.
