Perhaps the biggest move of the weekend, besides the B1G no longer playing FCS schools...is that they are moving to a 9 league game schedule. Is this a hint at more realignment? Or simply a move to bolster SOS?

Will the SEC follow suit?

ACC has their ND set up, which is a combo 8/9 schedule.
PAC has 9 game conference schedule.
Big 12 has 9 game.
B1G will have 9 in 2016.

I dont foresee it unless we add teams, but at that point I think it still stays 8, just an added game for the championships

Can we talk about West Virginia joining in 2012 and who do you think we should add to the sec?

If we move to a nine-game schedule, all SEC teams play every other SEC team in a four-year cycle.

It's the right move.

Bama/Saban has been pushing for this for years but we can't get any other teams on board. There are too many coaches out there who need 4 auto-wins a season so they can go to a bowl every year and keep the fans happy.

No. It's nice to be able to play cool OOC games other than GT.

Blame your own ADs for your shite schedules.

Arkansas fans are hoping so. Greater chance of winning 3 SEC games in 1 year with 9 games instead of just 8.

Eventually, yes. Most coaches hate it, but as Pat Fitzgerald noted, the Big Ten coaches voted 14-0 against their 9-game schedule, and it's happening anyway. If the TV rights that go with more league vs. league inventory are worth more than the potential loss of a payout from bowl games in Birmingham and Shreveport, or if the playoff committee cites it as a reason an SEC team was bypassed for a Big Ten or Pac 12 team, it should (and probably will) happen.

Barnhart's compromise was actually okay: go to a 9-game schedule in exchange for keeping an FCS game. Add on power conference game and one CUSA/MAC/whatever game.

So by taking away the FCS game potentially, you can't play anyone else besides Tech?

This season, Georgia is playing Georgia Tech (won the Orange Bowl), Georgia Southern (won the Sun Belt), Louisiana Monroe, and Southern. That's way better than Missouri's schedule.

In recent years, in addition to GT, Georgia has played series with Clemson, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Colorado, and a game against Boise St.

Future home and home series are scheduled with Notre Dame and UCLA, as well as a neutral game with UNC. All of those would be eliminated by a 9-game schedule due to a lack of home games.

In short, shut the frick up.

If they moved to 9 games to actually help SOS, then they should just hop off of their academia high horse because it's flawed logic.

9 Game Conference Schedules Actually Hurt SOS

We wouldn't lose the FCS game. UGA would need the home games, especially with the neutral site game with Florida.

not sure if you're talking about a 4x4 division w/ 4 playoff team, but that format has serious weakness. The TEN is playing catchup with the SEC, maybe the last NC will slow them down a bit but maybe not. The extra conference game certainly helps fan interest and along w/ dropping FCS play helps the SOS. The SECs hand may NOT be forced until the TEN expands again, otoh, a good conference admin is pro active and the SEC has been playing catchup in that regard.

Won't happen, Bama/Saban has been pushing this for years and there are no takers in the SEC. Literally every team down voted Saban's proposal for a 9 game schedule. I don't know why this subject gets brought up so much?

Why don't you break down the two schedules for me and show me where I'm wrong?

As the comments of the link suggest...the formula did not take into effect W/L records....only chances at wins. The less wins predicted suggests a tougher schedule.

I think 98% of P5 football schools are better than almost every FCS school. (minus your ND State and powerhouses) Ergo, tougher schedule and SOS.

I'm bringing it up since the B1G changed their scheduling on Friday...and no one has mentioned them going to a 9 game schedule. Everyone has talked about getting rid of FCS schools, but why add a 9th game? Realignment? or SOS?

The problem is the home/away imbalance. Teams have to give up a home game every other year and that cuts down on neutral site opportunities.
