I wonder if Freeze was a decent preacher before he became a coach.

A decent sermon or homily lasts no more than twenty minutes and makes me laugh at least twice, and not fake church laughs either.

The reality is that HF is a good coach who is coaching at a traditional doormat of the SEC West. He has been impressive in turning Ole Miss into a team that can be talked about in the SEC W title picture. It's possible, but unlikely that he will win any hardware there simply because he is coaching in an era in which the west has become the strongest division year-in and year-out in college football history.

The hopes and dreams of the Magnolia State rest on those protruding incisors.

He beat Bama last year. I mean the crowd rushed the field so that has to be significant, right?

Beating the #1 team in the nation on a day when the nation kept its eyes glued to the two Magnolia State teams does mean a lot, yes. No need to be salty.

It was a hell of a win, and they had some bad luck with injuries that certainly played a role in their late season regression.

Unfortunately, that's part of the answer to the OP - playing in the SEC West is a big part of the problem. Last year's Ole Miss team would have been serious contenders in just about any other conference.

those top 5 recruiting classes

If OM can keep up the momentum in the '16 class, they can finish top 5 in the SEC for the second time this century.

Would a "Mr. Ed Lookalike Contest" be considered significant?

I think he has a really legit shot at winning the West once Saban is gone - and an even better shot at sneaking into a "BCS" (major) bowl game (like State last year) and winning. So, from an OM perspective, that is pretty significant. The 2016 recruiting class they have coming will be better than the Nkimdeche class from 2013. They have borderline overwhelming talent at some positions right now.

I think it is important, when having this discussion, to recognize that "significant" for OM is quite different than significant at Alabama or Auburn.

I will also say this - I think that Freeze, because of the religious stance he has taken and in view of what is going on behind the scenes, is the current SEC coach most likely to have a 30 for 30 made about him in the next 10 years. That too is significant.

Don't know...the Ole Miss defense is great, but it seems like Freeze has not been able to put together a complete offense yet. Which is odd...because Freeze was/is supposed to be an offensive guru.

If one of the QB's pans out this season, I don't see why they could not challenge for the West.

If he gets rid of Matt Luke and hires a good OL coach, yes.

Ole Miss hasn't done anything significant in damn near half a decade.

Talk about unpleasable fans, good lord..
