Will Georgia's administration buy in like Alabama?

I think Kirby Smart was a slam dunk hire, and bringing along several assistants from Bama was a huge plus. Georgia has the potential to become the next big dynasty. Amazing town, great academics, almost an entire State loaded with talent behind them. Question is, will UGa's administration be willing to give Kirby everything he wants like Bama gave Saban?

Alabama has reaped both the academic and financial benefits of investing in a National Championship caliber football program, will Georgia do the same? The East is bad, do they capitalize?

Not close to that extent, but hopefully a step further in that direction. If this class finishes like we hope, the chances of elite success go way up.

Georgia fired a perennial 10 win/ season coach for an untested assistant. It's clear they had no plan other than to get rid of Richt. So yeah, not even close to a slam dunk hire.

And no, they won't Capitalize. 7 games in the administration will recognize their grave error.

I was a huge Richt supporter, but I think Smart will take us in the right direction. Do I think Smart will get as much support from our administration as Saban does from Alabama? No. Do I think Smart will get more support than Richt did? Yes. I think Smart will demand it. Baby steps. If Smart has more success than Richt, then he will demand more autonomy and will get it. That, hopefully will lead to more success and more autonomy. Only time will tell.

1. Bama has the biggest budget.
2. Saban knows what resources should be deployed and for what.
3. CKS has seen all of that up close.
4. Time will tell

It's the alumni who think they've been squeaky clean for all these years that are going to have to wake up and start playing the game. Can't be letting the future Tunsils of the world leave the state.

I feel like that entire program has been on cruise control for as long as I can remember.

Defensive coordinators as coaches don't work out nearly as often as former offensive coordinators. I think time will show that Saban was a huge reason for the success of Kirby Smart. He won't have close to the success that Richt had at Georgia over the long haul.

One thing many people fail to realize is that Alabama's power brokers were in a uniquely vulnerable position when they hired Saban, and it was that vulnerability that forced them to give him more control than they would have wanted...and Alabama has been much better for it.

You bring in Nick Saban right after Coach Stallings left, and it's a very different situation with possibly a different outcome.

I don't know much about UGA's buy in, or what kind of manipulation and power struggles go on behind the scenes, but every major football program has it to SOME level. If I were a Georgia fan my only concern with the hire would be whether Smart is prepared for dealing with those people - that's really probably the biggest challenge a head coach faces at a major school.

Remember, when Saban came in he got a no buyout. If Bama had not gone along with the changes he wanted he would have been gone quick.

As much as I hate dawg fans, Kirby will do what Richt could not do. Georgia will be a top 10 team every year.

The program is a hard read from the outside and hose on the outside have no clue what they are talking about.

As far as buying in , it appears so. The financial commitment the school made , not just with this hire, but made last year the raising coordinator salaries and creating the best facilities in college football. This is something CMR had been pushing for years( evidenced by him paying bonuses to assistants out of his own checking account)

The new direction thing I thing is a misnomer, UGA was stuck at a level; granted a top 10-20, 10 win per season level , but still stuck. This is more about New Blood, new fire, new focus.

Richt had gotten tired and as much as UGA needed new life, he needed a new scene as well. 90% of the fan base did not want him fired; and 99% of the fan base loves the CKS hire. And anyone UGA fan who disagrees with that is clearly in the 10% that has wanted him fired for 10 years.

Kirby Smart was the heir apparent period. Has been. I'm sure Mark knew it and Nick knew it. He is everything UGA could ask for.
Has been taught for years under one of the best. He is loyal. He is a DGD through and through, from father being one of the most respected head coaches in the history of Georgia high school football, to being one of those players you remember and tell stories of, to even his wife being a Dawg athlete.

He was patient till he couldn't be anymore, and UGA had to move now.

Those who use the whole DC never translates well , are making wild assumptions. I could argue most coordinators are not patient enough for 9 years to wait for the right job.

But to answer the original question, ADGM better or he will be fired next!

I don't know enough about UGA to know if their Administration is as meddlesome as Bama or Auburns were. Do they stick their noses in too much?

If Smart is the right guy, Georgia could become a powerhouse. Just like the early 1990's with Florida, Georgia is a great coach away from competing for championships yearly. They've got the resources needed, they've got one of the best instate recruiting advantages around, and have many other tangibles to do special things. There's not many great excuses to why Georgia hasn't won it all since 80's and they've been the kid who has all the potential in the world but is wasting their gifts.

Only time will tell if Georgia got the hire they need.

Kirby was the target from day one. That was the clear plan in place.

the "powers that be" have already made it clear that UGA will continue to live with a disadvantage insofar as our drug policy

1st offense - 1 game suspension
2nd offense - 4 games

strictest policy in the SEC and one of the strictest in the NCAA 9maybe even the strictest - not sure about that)

it means that we have been, and will be, without key players faster and longer than our competition

the gurley situation?

UGA sat him down with our lawyers and worked him over for a confession

had this happened at ANY other SEC school 9except MAYBE Vandy); the lawyer would have been hired to assist in his defense and he would have kept playing

it has been made clear to Kirby that our drug policy will not be relaxed

so, I AM concerned...

I agree genuineLSU that you don't get rid of 10 win a season coach but I digress. Didn't you guys try to do that as well?

This is something I've always wondered about. Who exactly (as in, the names of individuals) are these power brokers whose influence Saban has minimized?
