Gene may end up coaching for his third National Championship ring after his team wins the ACC Championship. Kind of crazy to think about.

And Auburn fired him.

What a mess.

He lost to a terrible South Carolina team they're not letting UNC in the playoffs

The first game of the year. They're a completely different team now

Good DC

Good, not great HC.

Any chance he ends up back in the SEC after all of the dust settles with the pending hires/fires.

Not that different. I've watched several of their games. They're a middling team for their record.

The committee still won't let them in the playoff even if they are a different team with how bad that loss is.

I know it's unlikely that NC gets in, but will you guys pull for him if they do? What are the general feelings? Hard feelings or grateful to him for 2010?

Only way UNC gets in, is if both Clemson and Bama lose. And even then, I'm not certain they'd even get in over 2 loss Stanford. Carolina had a very soft schedule.

I don't think they will get in either but if they win the ACC Championship they are in.

They did.

But beating the #1 team in the country - a team that has held that spot for weeks - is going to look really good to the playoff committee.

Ohio State has also had a soft schedule, and the committee would need to put in a championship-less Ohio State team over a Power 5 champion with 1 loss and a victory over the #1 team.

The difference is that UNC played 2 FCS teams in their OOC while Oklahoma went to Tennessee and won.

No way North Carolina gets in to the playoffs. Two FCS games, no regular season quality wins but an abysmal loss OOC. Oklahoma is in, either MSU/Iowa are in. North Carolina winning puts Ohio State back in and Bama losing puts PAC winner in.

That's not what is keeping them out of the CFP. The 2 games played versus FCS opponents is what will keep them out.

North Carolina would have to dominate in victory. Assuming Clemson lost, you are probable looking at

1)Bama
2)Oklahoma
3) Michigan State
4) Ohio State
