I thought about bumping my thread from last week about how Butch Jones is a bad coach but this is a new week.

Do you think Butch will ever turn the corner or will he just sit on GO waiting for his $200 until UT fires him and goes back to the drawing board?

I'm starting to think the problem is actually institutional but that's not to say that Butch Jones is a good coach because he's not.

UT fans, it should probably go without saying that we are all really enjoying this downward spiral BTW FWIW but I'll say it anyway. We really are.

Tennessee is going to continue hiring fricky coaches until they lower their standards and hire a successful coach at a small school. That's my opinion, anyways.

He can't return the program to glory. UT needs a coach that can:
• Recruit like hell
• Coach his kids up once he gets them
It's the second point where Jones falls short.

Tennessee can't out-recruit UF, Georgia and Bama year after year. I'd look first and foremost for a coach who can make 3-stars play like 4-stars.

For an example, remember what Rich Rodriquez did at West Virginia 8-9 years ago. No 5-stars and very few 4-stars on those teams, but he had them playing well above their capabilities.

That's the kind of coaching UT needs to look for in its next HC.

It sounds like they need Muffin.

TN is a prime example of top 5 classes being worthless without a decent coach.

I can't definitively say no but I'm really starting to doubt it. And it sucks because we have talent, and I really believe just one big win is all it takes to get our team over the hump. But some of our best opportunities are behind us. I can't see us beating Bama, and UGA truly has to go full Richt to lose to us. We NEED to beat Arky, or we're looking at a probable 2-5 start.

Butch could win if he had more talent. Not because he's a great coach, but some coaches become semi-successful because of just stocking their team with elite talent and letting that take over games. I don't think he'd ever be a national championship coach, but he could be a 8-9 game winning coach with the occasional 10 thrown in there, assuming he has a stockpile of talent.

I honestly believe the talent on their team is a little overblown, outside of their WR corps.

UF's redshirt Freshman threw 42 times in his second ever start, while Dobbs who has been prematurely-hyped threw only 17 times(!!!). Their coaches don't trust their passing offense, and for good reason, outside of their receivers — their QB and OL just aren't talented enough to make it happen.

Florida's receivers were open all game, Grier is just too fresh to hit them all, and UF was also playing 3 true freshman OL.
