More like $1M these days for our OOC games against P5 competition.

Just like LSU won't play Tulane.

Not that they couldn't beat Tulane, we just don't schedule them.

Why piss off the hybrid LSU/Tulane fan?

But yall will schedule Sam Houston and other FCS teams

For a conference to be all about "tradition" you pussies are coming up with hella excuses.

What happened to just playing the damn game between two historic rivals?

Is everything about money and a damn footprint now?

There is a slight difference in travel expenses instate for Troy vs out-of-state. It would greatly benefit Troy to play at AU or UA.

FWIW, I agree with all the people arguing for Alabama to play instate schools. There really isn't a good reason not to.

Meh, the money comes whether troy plays us or Florida. The check spends the same. Not sure where you get this idea of keeping the "revenue in state". The revenue gets to the state no matter who they play. This has always been the UAwannaB argument. Truth is they need help keeping their program afloat and Bama would pack the stands. The same methodology Auburn used, quite successfully, in 1952 to get Bama back on the schedule.

Other schools around the country do it every now and then. Has UA played a school from the state besides Auburn in the last 10-20 years?

No, and we wouldn't be playing AUBURN if the state didn't make us.
Bama is a national brand. A brand amoung national brands. Has been for close to 100 years. We need absolutely no one to help subsidize us and aren't interested in creating another Auburn situation. The plan was to be the only big school in the state and our wonderful leaders in Montgomery bought the Auburn bullshite.
We won't play Troy, JSU, UAB or anybody else. We don't need to. We don't apologize for it.

Go on and move to the east and we won't play your asses.

This is a myth. It's mind boggling that we still have fans who think the game is mandated by legislation.

I'd rather we not play any non-P5 teams. But if Saban insists on doing it then I don't see why it couldn't be Troy.

Troy would sell all 10,000 tickets allotted the first day

I don't think Troy would get 10k tickets, but I could be wrong. We usually only give that many to SEC teams.

I don't think UA would offer to pay Troy as much as a Georgia or Florida State would.

And WKU is only 2 hours further from Tuscaloosa than Troy is.

The SEC is already criticized for playing too many "cupcakes" even if the team is a solid contender.

If fear is involved,"which it's not" it's due to SOS and other factors. Can't play every in state school that would love nothing better than to use an entire season to prepare for their game of the century.

But it took legislation to get them to play each other again. And other states legislate instate teams play.

So while they would have played each other without it one day. It did come to pass.
-----------------------------------------------

What if Tulane built a brand new stadium and the Louisiana legislature mandated LSU play them each year to guarantee a sellout every other year and boost season ticket sales for Tulane, to help pay for their new stadium. Would LSU fans think that was a great idea?

No. It doesn't work like that. Troy would still get $1m from whoever they play outside the state.

Also, by bringing in a team from outside the state, their 5k fans are more likely to spend at least one night in Alabama.

Who fricking cares about money.

Just play the damn game. You guys have a historic rivalry, no matter what the series record is.

Like I said yall are so big on tradition but scared to play these small teams in the chance their may be an upset.

It's kind of a big fricking thing. For starters, the University cares about money.
