Why was the 2003 BCS NCG played on a Sunday?

It's crazy that a game of such importance was played on the same day as NFL playoff games. I remember Peyton Manning getting his first career playoff win that day and it completely overshadowed LSU defeating Oklahoma for the BCS National Championship. Plus there was the great playoff game in Green Bay with Matt Hasselback guaranteeing a win in overtime and then throwing a pick-six to lose the game. Why was that game played on a Sunday instead of a weekday?

I guess because the game was at night, and didn't directly go head to head with the NFL? I didn't even remember that NFL games were played that day, guess I was just focused on the LSU game.

Probably had something to do with the fact that it was before the BCS National Championship was its own standalone game. At that time the national championship game was labeled the "national championship" but was one of the BCS member bowl games, that year being the Sugar Bowl.

I was at the game. Only thing I remember well was Snoop Dogg doing some crap rap video dressed up as a Sooner and a Tiger.

USC wasn't in the BSC championship game. They won a popularity contest where only nerdy journalists voted.

USC won the *AP* title that year, but the AP was only one component of the formula used to determine who would partake in the BCS game.
