Why was Dabo so pissed at the refs after the onside kick?

absolutely nothing was wrong/illegal with the execution of that play. instead of yelling at the refs he should have been yelling at his ST coach. dude looked like a complete child crying to his momma.

And he got to that point bc his team was offsides against UNC.

He knew he got caught with his pants down so he was just desperate for a call.

At minimum he figured it may result in him getting a favorable ruling later in the game.

I've wondered that too. It clearly went over 10 yards before being touched.

Because they did the same thing to South Carolina and recovered but it was ruled SC ball.

The difference is SC called a fair catch, Clemson did not on our play.

Something about them doing it against USC and refs said you have to give them an opportunity to field it. But I'm betting someone for USC called for a fair catch.

^^yep

He was confused. They had a play last year (against USC maybe) where they tried an onside kick but the opposing player called for a fair catch. Clemson recovered but was penalized because they didn't give the opposing player a "fair chance to catch the kick" or however that rule is worded.

Since Clemson didn't call for a fair catch, it didn't apply in this case. I believe that is what he was complaining about. Or maybe he thought Bama was offsides on the kick.

Or maybe I am giving him too much credit. Maybe there was a shift in the plates in his head keeping his eyes from completely going to the side of his face, and he just had an episode. No way to tell.

It looked like he was saying something about not being set. Whatever that means... the ref shut him down quickly though...

Dabo always looks pissed. He and Saban seem to be the two most intense coaches in college football.

I'll just leave this here. There are hundreds of others if you'd like to see them.

Because even though he's been a head coach for 8 years now, he still doesn't know the rules. Clemson tried the same play against us last year, but we actually coach special teams, so our guy knew to call a fair catch. Dabo went nuts then, so they explained the rules to him. So rather then going to brush up on the rule so he would know it if it came up again, he didn't worry about it. So he acted a fool last night, because he still doesn't know the rule. Not like onside kicks are a common play, no reason to know those rules...oh, wait.

DAbo is no way like Saban.

I have never heard Saban throw a player under the bus. Even when he is fuming about refs, I have never heard him reference that at halftime.

Saban is intense, Dabo is tantrum like.

He said they ran the same play versus USC and it was taken away because officials said they didn't give them opportunity to make a fair catch. I am not sure whether they called one or not or maybe was a bad call. Sounds like they dumped the play after that call. Probably was a bad call, but he was really just pissed that play was critical mistake.

After the game he referenced an onside kick his team had tried last season, or last year? Not sure, but he said was called back because his opponents didn't have the opportunity to make a catch.

Which is not in any rule that I recall about onside kicks so I don't really know what he was talking about.

But as many who watched the Clemson/NC game know, I'm not sure that he really should complain about onside kicks calls since Clemson benefited greatly from a bad call given to NC.

NC did an onside kick, and recovered it shifting the momentum and giving them an opp to score, BUT the refs flagged NC for being offsides, and that was clearly not the case.

Not offsides
