So much on here about how dumb it would be, about how he would never accept because of all the sanctions, and how hes a terrible coach but here is how I see it:

Miles is dying (literally) to get back into a coaching job. OM is going through something incredibly damaging as a university and football program. The hire would not be about winning a championship, making the playoffs or winning the SEC.

In my opinion, the hire would be about bringing in a man with a solid moral compass who can keep the wheels from completely falling off and attempt to right the ship. As an LSU fan, I have my issues with Miles as a football coach, but if there is any man who is right to step into a complete shite show and keep those young men focused on their future, get them ready to compete on Saturdays and help get the ball rolling on a future for the program (especially with trying to salvage recruiting), Les Miles is a great candidate for that job.

It makes a lot of sense for Ole Miss, it makes no sense for Les Miles. Not that I think he will have a ton of opportunities, but he'll have better ones than an Ole Miss program he could probably barely make it to 6-6 with for several years under heavy sanctions. By the time he might be able to get any traction there he'd be in his late 60's at that point. I mean, if all he wants is a $3M paycheck for a few years, go for it, but that's not a way I think he wants to be known for going out as.

I guess that's the risk. Would he rather coach somewhere smaller and win more games, or would he rather compete every week in the SEC in front of the most passionate fan bases in the country?

You can tell me Miles doesn't want to coach again in stadiums like Death Valley, Bryant-Denny, The Swamp Ect..

Even if Les stopped being stubborn and got rid of his antiquated offensive philosophies, he'd still not be able to bring in anything close to the talent he had at LSU...If he stayed at Ole Miss long enough, about 7 wins would be the most you could ever hope for, and Les would be pushing 70 around then.

There will be no pressure at Ole Miss for a decade. Easy money.

I call BS on that, if Les is the coach...Ole Miss fans will tire quickly of his boring arse style of football in 2 or 3 years.

The more crap that comes out the more it looks like the sanctions will be really, really bad. Top coaches won't want that. OM just needs to focus on a getting a guy to weather the storm.

I've seen more LSU fans who seem to want this than OM fans who want it. Wonder why that is?

Also, Les has a certain legacy now and, at 63 he has enough money to live extremely well and without financial concern for the remainder of his (apparently, dwindling) life.

Why would he take a job where he has the deck stacked completely against him and have to deal with many of the people responsible for that mess being his superiors? And, I'm sure he has off-sets in his buyout from LSU, so he'd likely be doing it for no more money than he's already making to stay at home and do TV.

They will only have a skeleton team for at least 5 years, no pressure whatsoever for at least 10 years.

I honestly think hes the type of guy who would love to try and turn that program around in spite of the deck stacked against him.

You make a great point about the buyout and the hire off-setting checks from LSU... I don't know enough about it, but im sure thats a major consideration!

Last 4-5 years CLM couldn't win with elite talent in the SEC west so what would he do with the worst talent in the division

the cult of les miles is still alive and well in a large segment of the lsu fanbase. it's sad.

because he's desperate to coach again. he did terrible in his interviews last year and is willing to take most anything at this point.

Ugh, I agree with an Alabama fan. Miles is going senile, but I don't think he is far enough gone yet to take this job.

This. No coach who cares about winning will go to Ole Miss right now. Les Miles is too old for this job to be realistic for him. Ole Miss will either hire a young up and coming coach or they will hire a guy like Mike Shula or Derek Dooley. I'd put my money on Ole Miss removing the interim tag on Matt Luke once sanctions come down in November, Not many people are going to want to touch that job once that happens, but Matt Luke is an alum and it would still be a great opportunity for him to get some experience.
