Alabama fans are 100% right to roll their eyes at LSU fans and their “delusional optimism”. Bama’s teams have been machine-like lately and this years team is no exception. However there are a few intangibles this year that have added to the usual, annual delusion:

-LSU has improved DRASTICALLY offensively. Albeit against inferior competition (Mizzou, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss… I get it. Scrubs.) But any person with half a brain can see that this team is better with the staff currently in place than the staff that started the season.

-Ed Orgeron knows that he is coaching for his dream job. If he beats Alabama, the public sentiment will be so swayed in his favor that Joe Alleva will be forced to hire him. He no doubt sees this as a one game audition to become head coach at his dream school. Will that make him more willing to pull out every stop? Does that even help LSU? Maybe.

-The game is in Death Valley. Alabama hasn’t won by more than 7 points in Tiger Stadium since 2002 (when Saban was coach). 2/3 of Bama’s wins in that span went to OT. These games have been CLOSEEE when they are played in Baton Rouge. LSU fans would argue that with better coaching, LSU could have won in 2012 and 2014- and now we get to see if Coach O is that better coach.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least to see Alabama win. Moreover, I wouldn’t be surprised to see LF7 struggle to find holes and be frustrated trying to run the ball.

But- I’m an LSU fan. And we have had Alabama on the ropes with lesser teams in the recent past. So, I’m all in. I’ll be in Tiger Stadium as delusional (and loud) as ever.

Why Level-Headed LSU fans should exercise some caution...LOS.

Bama I think has us beat on both lines. We will need one hell of a day from both OL and DL to have a chance at this game.

We will need at least 10 of those as signs for Gameday if they come to BR.

Really?

Yes. LSU has set offensive records in each of the three games Ed O has coached, including most yards against an SEC opponent EVER by an LSU team. I know it was "just Mizzou", but think about all the YEARS LSU has played in the SEC and faced the Vandy's, Kentucky's, Mississippi State's of the SEC. Never in all those years did an LSU team put up more yards.

I hear ya, but it's different.

LSU has the 2nd most talent in the SEC. Their poor performances are an indictment of Miles' entire coaching staff.

If you just leave the players alone, they should be able to beat the majority of teams they play based on talent alone. Ed O isn't some kind of genius, he's just letting the dudes go out and play.

I'm all for the optimism! I just can't stand the shite talking after being beat the last 5 times. We all get aggravated with A&M shite talking us after not beating us in the last 5 tries, but we do it to Bama? Stupid! Let the game play out, and IF we win, come out and let them have it. It makes us look stupid IMO to run our mouth when it's the same kind of match up...

Literally zero of that matters.

Can the LSU offensive line hold their own in the run game? Can the LSU defensive line control the LOS and allow safeties to play deep?

That's the ballgame right there. Everything else is secondary.

Yep, that beat out last years performance vs USCe by a whopping 10 yards. Soo long ago, who was the coach?

I get it L5u fans are excited, but this whole, the offense is so much better is overblown and is more attributed to the competition more than coaching change.

Sure theres new energy and that's great, I like seeing it and makes for a fun pregame but also gonna point out inaccuracies .

Well, offensive records in each of O's first 3 games is accurate. So...

You can keep acting like Les was some offensive genius that got ran off unjustly, post stats from a game vs Western Kentucky, etc. But that doesn't mean it's "inaccurate" that LSU's offense has improved.

I'm optimistic!!! I can no longer tell my wife what play is coming from the formation. It's now a mystery. What a concept. In the past we won by having better athletes. If they were close in talent we lost. Les is a good guy but I'm really glad he is gone. We will see if we can still recruit the same caliber of players Les did.
