Why isn't college track and field more popular to watch?

Most people love watching it in the Olympics.

There is a ton more excitement around the Olympics than college track.

Because it is boring and people only watch it every four years because it is the Olympics.

It's not advertised anywhere near as well. I would assume most people couldn't care less about any meet before nationals, because next to nothing is on the line. I personally try to watch the national meet, but unless I'm paying close attention I never know when its on.

Because they rarely show it on tv.

Because it is a world event. lol.

At the college level it's just about the top tier kids trying to train for a run at the Olympics.

Too much going on at same time makes it a difficult tv property to telecast. ESPN seems to be making an effort to showcase it more this year and the format of the finals was more conducive to tv as well.

I thought it was boring until I watched a good track meet live.

I think that is part of the problem. It is never advertised. The only time I see it is when I stumble upon it flipping the channels.

If I wanted to watch people go fast and make left turns I'd watch NASCAR.

Watching live is pretty fun.

I've been to our big Tyson invitational at our indoor facility. It's dubbed as the fastest track in the world and lots of great athletes usually compete. It's amazing to see how fast some of the women/men are.

Track meets are fun in person. Hard to get into on television though.

I ran track in college and getting to see the female sprinters up close was a treat

There are only a handful of schools that put much of an emphasis on track and field. As a result, you get to watch a race made up of multiple runners from a few schools.

If the field was more diversified, there would probably be more widespread interest.

Micheal Phelps is a huge star in the Olympics, but most people don't watch swimming outside of the Olympics

Oregon and Arky dominate the distance races, and the SEC and maybe Florida State dominates the sprints. Florida has been winning the jumps it seems like forever.

I love watching football.

That doesn't mean I should also love watching JV high school football.
