Why is this Mississippi State team so bad?

You have two four year starters in Ware and Sword. Ready is an experienced PG. Newman a talented scorer.
I know there's not a lot of depth, but still, it seems like this team should be better than they are. What's the deal?

Because gator fans are pieces of shite coated shite with shite filling.

Because they still aren't very talented as a whole. They don't know how to win honestly...it'll be a couple years when we get howlands recruits in the system before we really improve

Still better than Mizzou.

It is perplexing to me too. They are much more talented than Tennessee for example, but watching them you would think they are playing with a very very depleted roster.

We have no talent back. Ware is the only player from last year that has improved. Our best freshman is Weatherspoon- he's actually quite good. Newman has a ways to go.
Rick Ray came very close to sinking our program with the players he got.

Ready and Zuppardo are the only Ray guys still there. Guess you could count Weatherspoon.
Edit: forgot Daniels

keeping zone we shoot the ball good today

Ben Howland plays a terrible brand of basketball imo. That fricker can recruit though.

Because they aren't as talented as their other opponents. Sword and Ward are experienced leaders but if you don't have talent that can only take you so far.

I'd venture to say they're more talented than the team they're playing right now.
This was a team picked to finish in the upper half of the conference by many before the start of the season. The "they have no talent" narrative started after everyone realized how bad they are.

You're dealing with trying to get a team full of players use to losing to close out ball games and buy into what you're wanting to do, it's a tough road. Malik is definitely not living up to the hype. He's getting better, but a top 10 player is supposed to be doing more than he is. Sword has regressed a ton playing second fiddle to someone else. He tries to force too much, I'm assuming cause he feels he has to make the extra play to prove himself. Ware has leaps and bounds better than he has ever been. It's perplexing to me how we can't play defense, when that's all we could do the past 3 years.

Anyone who picked us to be in the upper half overestimated the effect that the Howland hire would have in the first year.

How and why Rick Ray was hired is still the question. The 2nd assistant at freakin Clemson was the best we could do? Clemson basketball? Might be the worst hire in MSU athletic history. Yes, worse than Croom.

Y'all were the ones saying that, not us.

I thought we'd be better than we are, and I think we'll get better through the season, but my other post still stands.

It's because the media slobber over freshman for the most part. Most thought getting Newman would propel them to the top half the conference, it just hasn't gelled yet. This team isn't horrible and will get better with time

I never said that, but I know a many a State fan that thought we'd be NCAA bound. I thought 14-15 wins would be a success, but I don't see us getting close to that. More like 11 wins. We'll compete in two years.
